Default Close Calls.........

I guess we've all had some close calls before, and while I was reading another post, I thought I'd list a few of mine. Wrecked a motorcycle on a dead-end dirt road when I was 15. Knocked me out cold for 2 hours, and I had to lay there until I woke up, and walk a couple miles back to a house. I recovered. Took flying lessons at South Boston Airport back in the early 80's. Finally solo'ed in a little Cessna 152. Still remember the number(of the plane) N68208. One day I wanted to fly solo, and got caught in some zero-visibility. This is a no-no for a student pilot. While circling my house, I almost killed myself in a plane that I had temporarily lost control of. The Lord was with me big-time on that. When I landed that plane, I never flew again. In 1987(before seat belts were mandatory, I was hit nearly head-on by a bad driver(we were both doing about 55mph). This really messed me up, and I never fully recovered some of the injuries, but I'm about 95%, now. In 1990, I was shot at while bill collecting for a furniture company. Thank God she missed. In 2002, I flipped a tractor and escaped with only cuts, bruises, and a concussion. Guess I've been lucky(or not), depending on how you look at it. Anyway, I don't know what got me started on my life story. Guess some of y'all have had some close ones, too........

Besides close calls driving and such I worked in a prison that mainly has mentally insane inmates. Not unusual for them to tell ya their gonna kill ya.At first it bugs ya and ya wonder if and when they will be getting out.I've been approach about 3-4 time by paroles on the street and all of em have just passed on how well they were doing. They must be on the right meds now , lol!

Default Things happen

I've got one, when I was 16 I had a affinity for using gas to burn garbage in a big pit on our farm. Had a bunch of garbage already burning about 30 feet away dumped another load, was standing in the middle of that load pouring about a half a gallon gas on it, turn threw the empty jug up on the bank, took a step up on the bank & the instant I did the spot where I was just standing exploded into a huge ball of flames. I was shaking so bad I could barely walk. I will never forget that for as long as I live & Thank God Someone Was Watching Over Me That Day!!!

I thought of another probable close-call, about two years ago. I answered an ad about two motorcycles for sale in Prince Edward, Va. The directions given took me WAY down in the woods(down a pig-path), about a mile off the road to a dilapidated single-wide trailer. There was no "yard", and no real driveway. Nowhere to turn the truck around once getting to the trailer. I'm sure you have all had that "intuition" that is over-whelming, telling you that there is IMMINENT danger.I was almost over-come with that feeling BEFORE the guy came out of the trailer, but couldn't turn around before he was there. He had one hand in one pocket, and on his other hip was a Rambo-style knife. His eyes showed no soul, and it was like looking into the eyes of a rabid-animal. Charles Manson looked like the Pope compared to this guy. I always carry a pocket pistol, but was still worried. Under the circumstances, I went out to a shed(reluctantly) and looked at two JUNK motorcycles, and all this guy would ask was "are you going to get them or not?" He kept asking me that question, and I could tell that if I said "no", I was in trouble. He would not take no for an answer. Then he started talking about Vietnam(he was there). The ONLY way I got out of there was by telling him that I had no cash, and needed to go into town to cash a check, promising him I'd be back with the money. I was even concerned about getting back into my truck, and being in a position where I could not get my gun out in time(if needed). He still had his hand in his pocket, and I know he had a gun. When I finally managed to turn my truck around and head back out of "hell", I was overwhelmed with thankfulness. NOBODY even knew where I had gone that day. I will always believe that this was my luckiest evasion of danger, despite all of the other things that have happened. If any of you sense danger, don't "write it off" Get the hell out of the situation.
