The nearest Wal-Mart to my home is 700 miles + so not really an issue. The outsourcing of American jobs to cheap overseas suppliers is a concern. If America goes into an economic depression, where will the money come from to buy the cheap, overseas junk that Wally World sells?

Yea I love Publix, Kroger, and Cosco but they're not options in this area.
My options are Piggly Wiggly, Lowes foods, and Harris Teeter.
I don't particularity like WallyWorld either but its the only place I know of I can get garden mulch, beer and a snack in one place.

Default My turn

I can agree with ya all, Walmart sucks. But when you live in a small country town and Walmart has a monopoly on the business as they do here , what do you do? Only one electronics store here, only one other grocery store here (and they dont have the room to stock a good variety) , only one other sporting goods store here (and they are 3 x's the price of Walmart). To go to any store for what we want is a 200 mile round trip, gas at 3.50 a gallon it dont pay. Walmart ran out many stores in this town, put a lot of business's out of business. The best thing about Walmart here so far is the return policy (which I am making good use of just because I can (it might be wrong but for me it works ) a 30 day return. Buy it use it for 30 days return it and then if it works for what I use it for . Go to a better place and purchase to keep.
The other day I was in the local Walmart , and the standard greeting is: " Excuse me , can I help. " I finally got tired of it and repeated , "Excuse me is not my name, I will excuse you if you farted or something wierd. No you cant help me because you know less of whats in here than I do and if you cant find it suddenly its "seasonal stock". The gal looked dumb founded and walked away. A local newspaper ran a head line here not long ago "Walmart employee jailed for theft. Seems they were caught for pilfering the cash register. That has nothing to do with Walmart itself I know. But the management of the store for not doing a background check and hiring about anone that applies. For the fun of it I put an application in and havent been called yet in 8 months. I did find out tho that the local Walmart here does employ 450 bodies. Think about that one ,one store in a town of 3500 with who has 450 employees. Something dont figure on that . I went to the Doctor yesterday for a check up. She then wrote and added some new drugs to my list of medications for B/P . Walmart having that 4 $ list of prescriptions helps and I use the pharmacy there. I went in handed the prescriptions ,looked around and went back to pick it up. The reply was "You had this filled last week" . "If it was written today , how could it be filled last week?", was my reply. I promptly called the Doctor and repeated the conversation . She called back later and said you can go and get your meds now . I havent been there yet to do so , but I am assuming there will be a little more said than "Excuse me , may I help you "
I just read the last post concerning "Home Depot" , another store I will not consider regardless. Here we have a choice of Home Depot and Lowes. But neither close and I dont do any construction any more, so there is no worries there.
I used to drive a truck and have some Home Depots on the delivery list. Every thing I had on the truck to deliver to different stores was a "special order item" already paid for and the customer was waiting on. Regardless of what time I got to the store it was an appointment delivery only even with one item. The only time available was 1:00 A.M. even if I was the only truck there that day. I couldnt wait in the parking lot as there was no trucks allowed on the lot. I couldnt let the truck idle even to run the A.C. in 110 degrees with 90% humidity. I could wait untill someone tried to figure out who ordered the "special order " that I had, Wait till they cleared one particular dock to unload at, when there 4 docks empty. Wait untill they found the right order number so it could be checked in . etc etc etc. All at my expense when I was there at 8 A.M and having to wait untill 1:00 A.M. the next morning for the "appt"
MORE people of America should drive a truck and really see what the supply and demand thereory is about and what really happens when the GNP is produced and where it goes before the consumer really gets it .

Wow allot of good points there! It's kind of sad what customer service has become. It used to be you'd at least get a smile and a thank you, for spending your money there. That didn't matter if you were getting food, repair items, gas in the car or a hair cut. Now it's more like this is what I have to offer and this is what it'll cost ya, do you want it or should I just go back to sleep?
Prizm-Pal the store is Winn Dixie...I believe it's an LLC of Publix and Food World or some how connected.

I have no problems with shopping at Wally World. I do wish that they did have more products that where made here in the US, but its all the same products that are in all the other stores so i have no problem getting it cheaper at WallyWorld..I do not understand the social issues related to WW..I have had friends that act like WW is the devils doing but i have to disagree...WW is a American made company that was started by Americans and exploded into a company that is world wide, "and when in a free society that its a bad thing to make money"..Look i have no ties to Wally World and would never want to work there myself but hate when i here plp say how bad they are for the employees.. I believe that everyone is in charge of there own situation and if they don't want to work there then get a education and move on..When my wife and i where in college she worked at WW for a little while and hated it, but hey it was just a job and not meant to be her carrier..

Default Walmart

I was going to do a lot of venting but after reading the message to post I decided 3 pages was too long.
Its not just Walmart its the whole industry in the U.S. From the grower of perishables to the everyday products on the shelfs of the stores. Any product spends a lot of time in transportation from the raw form to the shelf ready for the consumer. Plus a lot of time in warehouses while from being produced to being put on a shelf in a store. A lot of people dont really know where any product has been to get to the shelf.
As a truck driver for many years I have been able to track any product as I have had a lot of it on my truck at one time or another. I have hauled fresh to frozen. From live to processed . From raw beginning form of a product to being put into the consumer grade product. More than (I would say) 50 % of the cost of a product is transportation and storage. Its too bad the merchandisers for consumers cant find a way to get it from a producer whether it fresh , live , or a manufactured product from raw form to the shelf without spending time on different trucks in route to different warehouses to the shelf ready for purchase
