Default Can you go hunting in the Bahamas?

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows if you can metal detect in the Bahamas. We go once a year and thought it would be great to go hunting there. we usually stay at Sandals which I am pretty sure they would frown upon that but thought maybe the local beach they have in Nassau. I have tried searching on google but could not come up with anything. Thank you,
Tonja

That's a good question. Wish I knew the answer, but don't. I will stay tuned to see. I'm sure somebody out here knows. I've been down there a couple of times and wished I'd had my machine, but.........

The rules for detecting in the Bahamas are similar to Bermuda. Be respectful of the other beach goers and no problems. I've attached a copy of a letter from another surf pirate who detected in the Bahamas. Bear in mind that just because there is no law against detecting doesn't mean you won't get hassled if you run into the wrong sort of lifeguard or policeman, etc. Islanders have a way of doing there own thing sometimes, regardless of the laws.

Seven years for metal detecting! That's nuts! You could rob a bank in the states and not get that much.

I don't know about the source! Still looking. I lived in Greece for three years and it would get you 10 there!

See how confusing it can be. The Chief of Police says no problem and then there's the possibility of a 7 year hitch in a Bahamian jail. Island living isn't all it's cracked up to be sometimes.

BDA

You could copy and print the letter I posted or better yet, e-mail the Police Chief and find out if the law has been changed.
