Cool Who'd of Thought There Were SO Many Pirates at TQ.

Detectorists have a stereotype of being staid and conservative loner types, swashbuckling seadogs is not the first thing that comes to most people's minds when the term 'Metal Detecting' is mentioned. I guess the pollsters had it wrong again!

I Like It, Me Hearties,

BDA

I always wanted to be a pirate. I used to play one as a kid. Kinda like Jimmy Buffett "born 200 years late". Kinda like that way of thinking, Beale.

When I was growing up, I became obsessed with a movie called "The Goonies".

The main character Mikey was a kid after my own heart: constantly in search of adventure, and never dismissing a legend as just a story before confirming it himself.

Without ruining the movie for those who haven't seen it, I'll sum it up as best as I can without giving much away: bunch of kids + map = Pirates and Treasure Hunting!

I may be 34, but I'm still the same hyperactive, dreamer kid. The only difference is, now I have a metal detector.

Aside from the movie, I like the pirate theme because it represents freedom and anti-establishment. Besides, many archaeologists think we're a bunch of no good pirates, anyways. I'd really hate to let 'em down...

Happy Hunting (Land Lubber's included)
