Default A Great Day in Del Rio, Texas

Had an interesting bit of traveling and sight-seeing the last couple of days...flew from L.A. to San Antonio, Texas last evening...managed to get pulled over for speeding on the drive from San Antonio to Del Rio - but luckily for me - I'm a silver-tounged devil and the deputy knocked it down to just a warning (my second in Texas this year...so I'm fast running out of get-out-of-jail-free cards)!

Called Leelo and met up for lunch today. After a beer and a look at some of his great finds of the year, we headed out to scope out a few hunting sites for the upcoming weeks...stopped in to an old sundry store that has been in business since 1905 - complete with the original ice cream and soda fountain area, so we HAD to have a treat in a place that looked like a Norman Rockwell "Saturday Evening Post" cover!

After a couple more hours of scoping and planning, (and a quick stop at the oldest operational winery in Texas - GREAT Merlot!)we met up with 3 of my project team members for a few more rounds of thirst quenching substances - hey it was 90 degrees outside and mapping hunting sites is hot, thirsty work!

At any rate, it was a GREAT day and a welcome break from the ususal routine. Leelo is an extremely knowledgeable detectorist and his knowledge of local history and the geographical lay-out of the area made for a very enjoyable few hours. I've no doubt we'll dig up some spectacular stuff over the next weeks and months!

Leelo - thanks for the tour and I'm looking forward to the up-coming hunts. You're a class act, my friend!

Shawn
