Default Help/ any water well pro's/info here

Hello folks, My well just went crazy today, Saturday may 11, and my wife is freaking out..I think its a Deep well has 2 pipes top is 1 1/4 Bottom is 1" going into the ground and a 1HP above ground Pump 50 gallon Bladder tank..I was washing the lawn funiture and all the sudden I lost all Pressure, checked points contactor switch needed replaced, Drained all water and tank, put 28psi into the Bladder tank, installed new switch contactor 30/50psi,Installed new 100 psi guage primed pump..It takes a while But gets to 45psi and thats it runs all the time tried adjusting switch lowered cutoff diferential..Backed off spring then the contactors go to kicking in and out eratic, held the switch open and pressure on guage drops to 18psi and slowly drops to around 12psi and when we use all the tank water it takes for ever for pump to build chatters at low psi....I have great pressure as long as I let pump run ..I forgot to mention I also installed a one way check valve toward the tank Between the tank and the Pump going into the tank..I am currently Cutting Power on and off when needed..Is it the foot valve I have no Idea how Deep my well is or how old..I have been in my house for 15 years and have replaced 1 pump and tank thats it..I am hoping I dont need to pull the well as its Burried in the yard and not in well house with pump and tank..I went and Bought a new replacement pump But now second guessing Due to having 45psi when pump is on max then loseing pressure ..please any info is much appreciated.thanks james

Darn James, I wish that I could help ya, but I have no idea what is going on with it. Hopefully someone will know.

Default Well

James, It may be drawing sand and slowing the pressure rate down when switched on....Just a suggestion.....Is your water still clear?

P.S. You may want to PM BERT-BERT or give him a call...He will probably know what's going on.....

It sounds to me like you've lost the foot valve. Sometimes the rust off completely and othertimes they get jammed open. Not much to do but pull up the intake line and check it out. Not a fun job, especially if it's an old galvanized intake line, been there done that.
Appreciate that I'm diagnosing from Bermuda so it's hard to say for sure.

sounds like a bad pressure tank, bladder probably is punctured causing loss of pressure, very common for them to be the culprit.

On top of your pressure tank there should be a Shrader Air valve (looks like a tire valve stem). Poke the valve open just like letting air out of a tire. If water comes out thats a sign the bladder is busted.

I too would also say that the tank liner/bladder is worn or has a leak...That would cause the switch to come on and off like that...Thats just a guess...Have not worked on these for over 25 years....Buster.....

All I can add is good luck..........when my pump started acting like that, I sold the house and moved. The new owner then hooked up to the city water line.

Thanks folks for the help.. Up Date..I replaced the pump, contactors, guage same problem I suspected it wouldn't fix it..But the old one was really chattering at low pressure..The Tank is a 50 gallon and its 4 years old and is holding 28 psi with no water comming out of the shrader valve..yesterday the water was clear..today after pump replacement the water is yellow..I'm stumped when I shut the house valve off its between the tank and house same issue so I know its not in the house..the tank is holding water due to pressure being in the house line for a good while..It looks like I get to start Digging to china next weekend and pull Well to check foot valve and pipe.I still have water for now at good pressure as long as I leave the pump on ..It will only build to 40ish psi will set there and run
when I cut the power the guage drops to around 18psi then to 10psi and settles in, turn on power takes a long time to build pressure..We just have to keep tripping the breakers on and off Dont want to Burn up motor..
.....Thanks pappy I will pm Bert and give him a call.......
I run a steel fishtape down the 1 1/4 suction line hoping to locate the plastic line With the Detector..but it just goes 6' and stops Must be a 90 degree Bend..Thanks to all.. Bda You may be right on..I have no experiance at all with this type system just been doing research..Thank you for your Diagnosis..what Bothers me now is the water is Dirty yellow..So I think its time for some work.
Superduty, toddsant thanks, the Air valve is showing good..
bbq, dugby, buster thanks just goes to show TQ has good folks here no matter what the crisis is..james

Default foot valve or

a hole in the pressure line will cause it to and make your water murkey.think your problem in down in the well.line has rubbed a hole in it and just pumping on a circle...id take the check valve out realy dont need it ...creek
