Default To die for?!

Well, I'm still awaiting my LandStar that I ordered from Kellyco so I decided to do some research. Since I am in Germany I'm surrounded by prime hunting grounds. The one thing that scares me though are UXOs! It is estimated that there is still 450 million pieces of unexploded ordinance scattered throughout Europe. That's everything from hand grenades to 500lb chemical bombs! Belgium's Bomb Disposal Unit says they unearth 10 UXOs a day on average. The other scary statistic is that about 30 people a year die from UXOs all over Europe, mostly unlucky farmers. I certainly do not want to be an unlucky hunter. It will be hard to fight my nervousness on every dig but I'm not going to let it stop me from this rewarding hobby. I'm going to have to be extremely careful, but I believe it will be worth the scare. Besides, some of the greastest rewards are reaped from taking risks!

Please be careful! I read about a Civil War relic shop owner who was killed in a blast from an old cannon ball - so it can happen!

So far I've found one very old license plate, a lot of nails, some funky green pennies and other misc. change.. but who's counting? I'm just here to have fun, giggle, and make friends along the way!

Wow...great opportunity... The only other thing besides the carefulness you obviously seem to already posses, I would definitely use a non-metallic digging tool...kinda like this one...( it doesn't have to be this exact one on fleaBay, just like it...!) GOOD LUCK...

I was stationed just out side of London in the 80s.. I was there for four and a half years. They was digging up 200 and 500 lb bombs about every week. I don't know what to say ! If your detector indicates a large Item, Mark it and walk away? Hell , you could even come accross a mine!

I would think there are a lot more interesting finds to be made than exploding finds. I've dug up a mortar round myself and it really isn't much fund to find something like that in your scoop. Perhaps a long handled digging tool would be useful. Why not avoid the large ferrous targets at least?

Cheers,

BDA
Well over 100 rings and only 1 bomb so that's not so bad.
