Default Turkeys

This is kinda funny. I used to be a big hunter, but don't do much any more. Spring turkey season was always my favorite one. I used to be very good at calling the turkeys up. Well, this morning, I was doing some much-needed things that I had postponed for a week, due to the rainy weather. Bushogged a field, put the cultivators on the tractor for the garden(weeds have about taken over). I was getting ready to do the garden when I thought I heard a turkey gobble behind the house. I went in and got my camouflage suit, turkey calls, and shotgun. I then walked down to the woods and hit the yelper. Turkey responded(this was around 11:ooam). Turkey gobbled as well as any one I ever hunted, but would not come to the gun. I got up and moved twice, and this turkey would come within about 80 yards of me, but no closer. I wasted 2 hours on this turkey, got a bunch of ticks on me, and was late getting to work on account of this turkey. Of course the turkey had the last laugh, and I doubt that I would have shot him anyway. It was almost as fun as digging. Never did get the garden plowed, or the grass cut, and the wife is mad. I'm off for 3 days now and it's supposed to rain. Missed my chances to be productive......all because of a turkey. Turkey season goes out this Saturday here, but it went out today for me.....Anyway, don't let some turkey keep you from your work like I did today.

Hey DF I have nevr been turkey hunting. My dad and brother go. They just got back from a turkey hunt in Fla. They have also been to Texas to hunt.

Heck you sound like you enjoyed the fun. Once in a while it is ok to be late for work. Getting the wife upset, well that happens also, Beale.

You're right about that. Looks like I may have another chance this morning to redeem myself. It's not raining.

I sat there for five days this year and never got a shot eather so don't feel bad .Remember it can always be worse . Just count your blessings and enjoy life while you can . If you get your Honey - do's done you will get out of the dog house soon.

Default He gobbled early this morning

While the wife was cooking breakfast, giving me instructions on what to do today, I stepped out on the back porch. I heard my friend gobble a couple of times. She came out and heard him, too. This is a big dilema for me, because I want to hit the woods again. So I figured when wife leaves for work, I'll try this again. She has good hearing and pointed directly in the direction of the turkey(this meant to go). So, I went. Got down there and the turkey was silent. Came back and plowed the garden. My "best" tractor cut off twice, but I managed to finish. That tractor is probably going on e-bay later on today. I think I've expressed my opinion about Farmall tractors before. Now, it's time to cut the grass(unless that turkey gets fired up again).

Yep, turkey hunting is fun.The fun part for me is calling them up. Sometimes I let them go, and sometimes I pull the trigger. If this one gives me the chance, he may end up on the dinner table. But he appears to be one of the old smart ones. Thanks, and good luck........DF

We have wild turkeys here in the Gila north of me. Never had the chance to bag one but man are the Pretty. I raised Broz turkeys a few years ago. Man are they Dumb. Out of a clutch of 10 you may end up with 3 or 4. They are so dumb you have to put marbles in there water or they will drown getting a drink.... Now that's dumb!
