What do you guys think of this?
I talked to my detecting bud back in my hometown, and I understand that construction may have begun on the train depot site I've talked about here... I was directed to speak with the owner/director of the project, and I decided to write him an email... this is what I wrote... let me know what you guys think...
Quote:
Greetings, Reverend Sinclair,
My name is Robert Chapman, and I'm a Port Arthur native living in Austin. I am also a history buff and treasure hunter. I've been hunting for coins and artifacts for over 20 years, and I'm a member of the Metal Detecting club here in Austin.
The reason I'm writing to you is to get some information about the construction of the new Seaman's Center, and to ask permission to search the construction site with my metal detector. I have spoken with a member of Dr. Monroe's staff, who directed me to speak with you. I had called last week, but I believe you were out of town.
I've kept up with the planning of the new center, and I understand from a detecting buddy of mine that construction may have already begun on it. I would absolutely LOVE the chance to come back and hunt the site again, as I'm certain there are more things to be found there.
About 17 years ago when I was living in Port Arthur, I hunted on the grounds and found numerous old silver coins and historical artifacts, including a 1922 silver dollar and several early-1900's silver coins. Regarding detecting the site, I will abide by any restrictions you or the construction crew may have, and will leave the site as I find it. I will also discard any trash, metal or otherwise, that I may find. I would also gladly work with you and the Port Arthur Historical Society and the Museum of Southeast Texas to donate any finds of historical significance from the old KCS Depot. I have tried to contact the director of the museum, but I understand she had a death in her family and was not available.
Please write me back at your convenience, and let me know if this is possible. If you'd prefer to talk to me, feel free to call me - my number is 512-497-8472.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Regards,
Robert Chapman
