Default I Wondered About This, Too....

Interestingly truthful....

Where are all of the
Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Where is the Democratic Party outrage?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating
Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago and handing out Visa cards?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in
Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a "vanilla"
Iowa, because that's the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage, complete with reports of rape and cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the
Iowa flooding ever again?

Hmmm, wonder what will happen when an 8.5 strikes California and makes Katrina look like a toilet over-flowed?

Some people don't look to the government, Hollywood or any other bleeding heart. Nature is nature, and most of us just take it as it comes and deal with it as best we can.

I whole-heartedly agree with you - and I hope this post doesn't come across the wrong way to anyone...it's just that I hate seeing double standards - regardless of who is responsible...

Default Here's my opinion.....

and I hope that I don't offend anyone. I live 70 miles from New Orleans and got to experience Katrina and New Orleans firsthand. It is something that I hope I will never have to experience again. There was so much hopelessness in the faces and lives of those from N.O. Now, to the opinion (and remember, this is just the way I feel)......A lot of folks from N.O. believe that the world owes them a great big handout and it got bigger when Katrina hit. The phrase "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" proved evident and the handouts came. When the handouts were given, many still were not satisfied. I do understand that a number of N.O. residents didn't have insurance and those that did was not properly compensated by the insurance companies. Because of that, many residents needed help. The problem comes when someone doesn't want to help themselves and wants the government the take care of them. So, instead of rebuilding or relocating and going on with their lives, many sit in their government owned trailers and complain about their situation. In contrast, my brother lives in N.O. and lost everything he owned due to the 8' of water in his house. In less than a year, my brother (who loves living in N.O.) was able to rebuild his existing home and move in. He had the desire to rebuild and make the best out of a terrible situation.......I say all this to say that it boils down to motivation......If you want to move on, you will

Thanks for letting me vent.
Chris
