I've been digging for 27 years, and there have been times when my heart just wasn't in it. But every time I think about quitting, I wonder what may be 5 or 10 feet in front of me. The most discouraging thing for me is VERY DRY, HARD GROUND(like it was all last summer and so far this summer). That kinda sucks. In the summer, no arthritic aches and pains, though.

Default Bored

I get bored when I'm hunting even if I'm finding lots of clad because I'm not finding anything old or if I'm finding & digging tons of pennies then sometimes I'm Like I Really Need To Dig Another Penny, & then I will maybe only dig dimes or quarters after that!

I can't say that I ever get bored on a hunt. I've been frustrated and discouraged but bored? No. That is one of the things I love about surf pirating, there's always something new and even a beach that I've hunted hunted 100 times is never the same beach because the conditions are always changing, the sand is always moving. It's like solving a puzzle because you have to figure out which areas will be the best based upon the current conditions and the weather that created them over the past few days. Even when the beach is quiet there is something to observe, something interesting to do. You meet people, friends and strangers, wildlife, beautiful scenery, crazy situations and if all else fails you find some kewl loot!
I'm currently in a hunting slump because of beach conditions, work obligations, personal obligations and an injured back that is just about healed up again. I can feel the pressure starting to build again and only a bunch of hunting will provide a release. Good Loot is coming soon I think.

Never Bored,

As long as I'm finding something I'm okay. It doesn't have to be anything good or special, as long as I'm finding something. Even the smallest things can give me something to muse about while I'm looking for something better.

Case in point, my yard has yet to give up anything good. But I keep at it. In my front yard I found a broad hoe and an axe head exactly 6 ft apart. That made me think about the fact that it wasn't always a front yard and the tools may have been left and forgotten by someone clearing trees or a hedge row or something. Yesterday, I found a tiny little area where there was a button that says "Wrangler" in it along with two tiny rivets that also say Wrangler. Now I'm wondering how those things happened to be out there without any other rivets. What happened to the rest of the jeans? Did some farm wife use the rest to make a quilt or a work apron or rags? These are the types of things that keep me from getting too bored.

Doesn't take a lot to keep me amused and occupied.

I am NEVER bored when hunting...my job has me under so much stress and has me working so many hours - that MD'ing is like a vacation for me!

I suppose if I were retired and doing nothing but MD'ing all day, every day...but I'd sure like to test THAT theory!
