I have only owned the ace 250, and many of times I thought about upgrading and getting something better, cause I thought I was possibly missing deeper targets,,,,financially I was unable to upgrade. I started playing around more with the ace on the different modes and sensitivity settings and started finding deeper and more relics in an area that I've been over a hundred times before. I went from finding surface coins to finding deeper coins and relics that where mixed in with rusty nails and such. In my opinion its not how expensive your machine is, its how you learn to use the machine you have...the ace gives you different settings to try and thats what the operater should experiment with. And really that goes for any metal detector.
Good Luck

i think Indy is right...and when i decide to get another detector other than my Ace 250 it will be an underwater one for those old swimming holes and sandbars out on the mississippi river. i feel i have a lot of learning to do yet with the Ace though ...so i'm in no rush...it can find ALOT of stuff just like the more expensive detectors., i think.

INDY Hit the nail right on the head. I have tried alot of different detectors and see it as every detector has two control boxes.. One one the detector, theother right there on your shoulders and if yoiu can get them both in sync with your ears being the conduit then it doesn't matter what beit a low end, medium range or high end detector Your gonna make some great finds.. That being said, I also think at least for myself, because of age and physical problems that it's not so much of upgrading as it is finding the Detector that is most comfortable and easy to understand according to how technical you can understand things. Case in point.. I had a DFX, Great Detector but to much for my thought processing abilities. I do think it's worth the added expense as your going to gain an edge in some ways but it all comes down to what ya can afford and what is feels right to you. Kinda like the differences of Dirt detecting and Beach & Water detecting.ya might buy 1 detector off the bat and thats it, your good to go or ya try one and it doesn't feel right or maybe your lookin for something a little more challenging. there are so many variables that if your like me and trying different things to find your nitch then your gonna upgrade and in some cases down grade till you find what ya feel is just your detector. What was the question again
? Theres the perfect example.. I can't even answer a simple question with a simple answer. Yes, ME personally, I think it's worth It. Hows that ![]() |

I hunt with this guy who has an XLT and the 250 and he prefers his 250, because he's used to it and knows it well. He does not lack for awesome finds either. Good luck in your search.

Personally I am finding lots of great and old stuff with my ACE. People talk of upgrading to find deeper stuff well...I don't really want to be digging any deeper that I already do!!! Digging is hard work and I don't want to have to carry a large shovel in addition to the stuff I already carry around!! i also would buy a water machine for salt water when I move to Florida!

One of the problems (if you can call it a problem) with the Ace250 is that is has detecting abilities and features found on machines that are double the price. This is only a problem in so far as the cost to upgrade to something 'better' is substantial if you're going to notice an appreciable difference. Experience develops skill and that's what increases your chances of finding good stuff.
I got an ACE250 when I came back to the hobby after a very long hiatus and it is an incredible little machine, my upgrade machines have both been water units which the ACE250 isn't capable of after the water gets 3 feet deep. I still take my ACE250 out for a spin from time to time and I find pretty kewl stuff with it but that's the experience part coming into play. 80% Hunter and 20% Machine,
