Fear is a healthy thing, but to show it can be not so good!I was told by inmates"How bout we toss ya off the tier",we were 5 stories up or on the 5th tier.Like a dumb ass I said whats stopping ya!They looked at each other and said "this guy is crazy".I dont make a habit of doin stupid things like that but it just came out LOL!Another time I was walking in a grassy area where some inmates were working and when I looked to my left I saw the shadow of an inmate holding a pickaxe above his head.I turned around and said What the hell do you think your going to do?He dropped the axe and I cuffed him up.I think he was showing off and just horseing around but he got to see the psych and a trip to the hole for it!I kinda got carried away here, sry -- Gary

I'm sure that you gotta have some pretty good nerves to work in the prison system. You could probably write a book...

Prison work is 95 percent mundane boredom and 5 percent terror!A crappy, thankless job that pays well.I'm sure there are other law enforcement people who post here that have some real doozies to tell.We maybe ought to do a thread about close to injury or death real stories! What do you all think?Gary

Good idea, Gary. I'm sure a few situations "stand out" during your years of service. I don't know if you were familiar with Virginia's big death row escape that happened back in the early 80's. We suspect that they came right by where I was staying that night. Never seen so many cops and such........

Gary, sometimes you've just gotta do what you gotta do. There's a reason you said those words and you're probably still sucking air because of what you said. You have to maintain your dignity and self respect at all times or the money doesn't mean anything.

Good On Ya,

It's really infuriating that some of the people who do the jobs that keep everything running smoothly are those who are paid least. I hope the strike is resolved soon with a fair solution. Stay safe!

Troubles resolved yesterday when the government bowed to public and union pressure to do the right thing and accepted the binding arbitration. The public didn't want a General Strike and the arbitrator's award was fair in the first place.
I'm certainly glad that the matter got resolved peacefully. A mountain of uncollected garbage on a tropical island in the heat of summer is not something I want to experience. I don't know what would have been worse, the stench or the explosion of the rat population. With the Cup Match Holiday just around the corner, we're going to need all the civil workers we can get as it is a bigger event then Christmas and the island will be virtually shut down for business for a week.

Kewl,
