I hope some people around here loose interest soon. Pickin's are gettin' slim! Oh well...forces me to get more creative with the hunting spots.

Default To my self

Well just about to my self, i have one other fellow here with a detector, here in Millaa Millaa. He must be I don't know what sort it is all i know it is blue in colour. It could be the same as mine, but not as old as my thirty five year old Bounty Hunter Red Baron. There is a old show grounds here witch is part of the golf course now i don't think they would like me digging there.A picture theater that burnt down about 10 years ago.And a CWA hall that got damage in our last cyclone it got pull down, the hall dates back to WWII the diggers used to rest there. So i think i have got this place to myself
.

I am new to detecting, only about 3 months. Most people I talk to here says they either have a MD or know someone who does, but before yesterday, I had never seen anyone else out MDing. Yesterday I was at the city park in our small town and a guy stopped and asked about the rules and regulations in this town, which there aren't many, so he got out his detector and hunted with me for about 5 hours. We didn't find anything but clad, but sure had a good time talking about our experiences.

We also had some smart a** kids tossing change at us! It didn't bother me too much cause it was right on top and I just picked it up and went along my way. Their loss, my tiny little gain. I figure every clad penny I find is one penny closer to a newer detector....glad they were tossing mostly nickles and dimes! One penny at a time is a slow way to get a new MD!

I've heard of punk kids throwing change in front of hunters before, I've also heard of punk kids getting a good slap upside the head to rattle their manners back into place.(obviously something had come lose in their head)

Metal detecting has a fad quality about it with some people. They get into the hobby expecting to harvest gold from the beach and parks like picking strawberries. What they find is that this hobby is not for everyone. It takes a lot of research and effort to get out there hunting and digging, which is great if that's what you enjoy but not so great if you're just into getting rich quick.
As any experienced dirtfisher or surf pirate will tell you, it's not about the gold it's about the hunt. Hunting is what makes our hobby fun; the gold, old coins, relics, etc. is the icing on the cake.
I predicted that there will be a lot of machines for sale in a year, back when the price of gold was creeping towards $1,000/0z. and I'm already starting to see signs of very gently used machines showing up for sale on the classifieds of several forums. Those classifieds are just the tip of the iceberg as most machines will wind up buried in closets for a year or two until they become part of a yard sale. By next Easter you should see quite a few good deals on higher end machines in the classified forums. Save your clad and keep your eyes open for a good deal next year.

Cheers,

BDA that's a fairly safe prediction, and I completely agree with ya.
This year I've seen allot more detectors on the beach than I've seen before but from the way they're being used I'm sure they'll be holding up a wall soon. Saw one Sunday afternoon had a nice slow even swing, coil fairly level to the sand, only problem was it was two feet above the sand.
I don't care what your swinging if the coil isn't at the soil you're not gonna find much worth finding.

I have yet to see anyone detecting in my neck of the woods. Of course it's not uncommon to not see anyone in my neck of the woods period, detecting or not! The only people I know that are into the hobby are here on this forum. And I for one enjoy all of your posts, experiences, finds, knowledge, all of it. The commaraderie shared, care and concern for one another in other areas of life, and willingness to help others experienced in the hobby or just starting out is a tribute to your character in and out of the MDing hobby. Thanks!!
I wish I had kids that would throw change in front of me!! The rocks are getting harder to dodge!
