I always wear gloves, it seems I always come across broken glass when I dig. And it helps with the posion ivy too.

Roadkingclassic: I too get poison ivy very easily, I have gotten it when the ivy plants were dead. So I choose gloves that have a thin layer of soft rubber around the palm area, and it seems to really help. And something else too.......the last two years I've been mding I have gotten the ivy really really bad!!! For some crazy reason this summer I have not gotten any ivy of any kind at all.......I think the gloves help but I don't think thats the complete reason, maybe my body has finally built up an immunity or something like that against the stuff. Anywaays for any ivy sufferers out there, the gloves do help!

I always wear gloves when hunting and I'm glad I do as the beaches and surf here are riddled with broken glass and other sharp nasty bits. I pocket the worst bits of glass, etc. for disposal and to show nosey parkers who ask what I've found lately. You should see the looks on their faces when I pull out a gloved hand full of broken glass, they usually look at the glass and then down at their bare feet.
I've tried several styles of gloves but have just started using a new type which are coated in nitrile on the fingers and the palm but a durable mesh on the top that breathes well and dries quickly. The nitrile is supposed to be tougher than leather but I'll find out soon enough. They fit nice and tight so I can pick a dime out of the bottom of my scoop, no problem.
The plumber's gloves by SUG were getting up around the $30/pair mark so i was happy to find the new nitrile gloves at $9/pair.

Cheers,

I've had a few finger injuries over the years, and usually wear gloves, also. Broken glass and jagged metal will mend your ways in a hurry!
