Default Fillling in holes

I got my detector on June 10 and tonight July 4th I hit a couple of playgrounds. Someone had been there hunting and didn't fill in the holes. I had my son fill them in least I take the blame. Is it acceptable to wrap his detector around his head if I find him? He also missed a gold ring and quite a lot of clad. ICE

why would you want to brake your detector ? use your spade it will do a much better job in my club we now and again have problems with peeps not back filling ..i cannot understand why they find it so hard to do as its much harder to to a hole than fill it ...if we find anyone who has left a hole open there are NO second chance's its a out right ban from the club ..dave

Ice, Lazy is the word..It could give you a bad reputation...not to mention any other hunters in your area...If you come across that hunter, I would have the talk and tell them...It might help..maybe they don't know or just don't care...I would still have the talk if you find them..Congrats on the ring....Buster....

That is just plain lazy as Buster said. I do not understand that type of thinking. It makes us all look bad, Beale.

Not filling in holes and missing allot of goodies suggests someone that swings the coil a foot off the ground because they didn't bother to READ the manual, that includes what not to do. Every book, video, web forum, web based instruction etc stated the importance of filling holes. And it's usually rule #2, right behind asking permission to hunt.

I found the guy (kid) not filling in holes while getting some lunch. I approched him and asked about his great (You guys were right) Radio Shack Detector he told me he got it for his Birthday and has been cleaning up at the schools. He got a bit indignent when I started explanining that he should fill in his holes. He said the rain would do it. I carefully explained that other people hunt these area's and that he would be giving them a bad name. He told me that there wouldn't be anything left when he was done. I asked how many gold and silver coins he found and he said none just modern day coins. He said that he doesn't pick up pennies as it's too much trouble to dig them. I don't thing I got through to this kid 14-15 years old. He is a real p*r*i*c*k but since he is "Cleaning out these sites" he should soon be gone.

Ah, to be in the age of infinite wisdom again.
Nice to see that he's not wasting his time digging the pennies as often silver rings will show up in the penny range. With his high tech machine and years of experience he should have the place cleaned out in no time.
Maybe he'll outgrow the attitude and get serious about the hobby eventually, it could happen. Good for you for keeping your kewl!

Cheers,
