Default Craigslist Generates HUnting Opportunities

I posted this ad on Craigslist (Denver) this afternoon:

I am an experienced metal detectorist in the Denver area who is willing to help locate your lost precious items. While I do not charge a fee for my services, I do request permission to retain any other items (coins, etc) recovered during my search as well as permission to detect the immediate property in return for my time and effort. I require your written permission before beginning any search or the written permission from the property owner in the event your item is suspected to be on property not owned by you. I take extreme care and pride in my work - and will perform any and all extractions in a professional manner as well as remove any trash or debris that may be uncovered during the search. I look forward to a happy recovery of your lost item!

Since placing the ad, I've already had 3 responses...the first one I passed on - a guy said he suspected that his friend's girlfriend threw 2 guns (that the this guy sold to the friend) into a pond. I didn't want to get into anything that revolved around a dispute over firearms, so I simply told the guy that my machine wasn't submersible (the truth) and I unfortunately wouldn't be able to help him at this time.

The second guy said he didn't need assistance at this time - but wanted me to know that he'd keep me in mind if he ever DID lose anything!

And, the third person said he lives in the University area of Denver and had lost a ring while gardening. I'll be calling him again tomorrow to set up an appointment to hunt on Friday afternoon.

AND - just as I'm typing this, I see where I have a 4th response...guess I'll go see what it is!

Excellant, I may have to do this as well, I seem to remember hearing there was a group trying to get detectorist from all over to list the names, phone numbers etc, on a site that people could contact them if needed.....Hmmmm I may have to try this....good luck

Default 2 More Responses!!

These are two more responses I recieved while I was typing this original post...thought I'd share them verbatim:

Hi, I need to find the bolt to my lawn mower carburator bowl.
I know it seems miniscule, but I cant mow.
I have lots of differant things I could give you in return if you find it.
Thank you. Tony
I am near I-25 and C 470

And this one from an apparent fellow MD-er, who I'm going to invite to visit TQ...

Great post. People get funny when they think you might find a trinket on their property. They expect you to find civil war gold coins and that you wont share. Show them all your bottle caps, pop tops & nails.
With your idea they should allow your detecting and hope for the return of their item.
Keep up the professional attitude. It makes it easier for all.
Thanks,
Art.

Sounds like you got a lot of responses from your ad. Yea get Art to check out TQ. I don't think I would look for someone's gun that was thrown into the water, even if I could. good luck with your ad.

That's a neat concept, and it just may keep you busy when you "retire".

Will do, Chick! Oh, BTW - I'll be in the Boston area late this year...I'll let you know when I have the exact dates...it may be too cold to hunt - if so, we can still have a beer!
