Hi, all,
I spent a couple of hours yesterday on an old house that I really thought would turn up something. Unfortunately, someone had beaten me to it and left HUGE unfilled holes everywhere! I got really excited when I did turn up some jar lids under an old apple tree figuring I'd found someone's buried treasure. But there was no glass like there were jars there and no anything else either I did a lot of digging just in case, but only turned up the lids. Oh, well. I'm still looking for CT/MA/RI members to go detecting with. I'll bring coffee (and maybe muffins!) Hey, I'm not above offering a bribe! Marna (Manchester, CT) ![]()

Hi Marna
Just a little bit of advice from experiance, there is no such thing as a worked out area !! even if someone else has worked the site I really doubt that everything was found!! There are a lot of variables ground moisture, weather conditions, sun ,clouds cool, hot ,direction of search all make a difference .Dont give up on a site just because someone else has been there before !! I know how you guys feel, I hunt alone also but Im getting used to it , I didnt think I ever would, but the solitude is kind of relaxing. Rick

Hi Marna!
Sorry to hear about your outing. Can't give up. I agree that a site never really gets cleaned out. Something is always missed! I wind up going back to sites, going over them again with a new coil, or a tweaked program, and I recover more stuff. As an aside, I think I would have tried to fill the holes the schmuck left. Idiots like that is what ruins it for the rest of us. HH! -Tom |

i dont believe you can hunt a place out i go in my own yard and find something everytime! last night i found 3 wheeties not much but still coins!! one was a 1919 old but common! second its sad people dont care about nature to leavee it like they found it, but to the positive side of it who ever was there before you wasn't good at detecting! i've been hunting for years and i always cover my holes and everyone i talk to that has hunted for some time is as concerned as i am about the way we leave a place so i say go back and find what they missed maybe they will show up and you can inform them of the "right"way of doing things!! and show off what they missed!!!

marna, dont give up as i have been detecting an old house site (my favorit spot) for the last 20 years and i always find somthing.Last year and this year i have been hitting it pretty hard.I have found 10 buttons from the war of 1812,several large cents, dozens of old buttonsand an 1806 half real. Most were found last year and i thought ok i have had to have found it all by now.But just yesterday i stopped for an hour before going to work and found a nice ornate button from the early 1800s.I also found a chicken colonel button right on top of the ground in an old tree stump that i have scanned many times before. This spot is in an out of the way area and i hunt alone and enjoy the peace and quiet.I do hunt with a friend sometimes but prefer to hunt alone as it can become annoying ansering the question wadyafind? every 5 miniutes.lol
