Default Are you a coin collector ?

Hello Everyone

I was just sitting here in the air conditioning, too hot to be out this afternoon !!

I was just wondering How many coin collectors we have here? and If you started collecting because you are a detectorist or if your detectorist because you collect coins ?

I started metal detecting because Im a collector !! I collect just about everything , but I put most of my energy into Winged liberty dimes,Small cents (IHC, Lincolns both Wheats and Memorials )and Proof Roosevelts and errors-Varieties.

By the way Im always interested in finding trading partners

Rick

Nice topic Rick

I am a coin collector because of my detecting. I just think the coinage of yester year was beautiful.

What I do here locally is I place an add in the newspaper asking to buy coins.
When I buy coins from someone I pull out what I need and sell what I don't need over at the Treasure Quest Coin Auction.
This keeps me in money to buy more coins.

I have complete colections of the Lincolns,Indian heads, W L halves, Mercury dimes. I need 7 more to complete my Morgan & Peace dollar set. I do have an understanding with myself that I will not be able to afford a few of the key date Morgan dollars and I can live with that

I too am a collector because of my detecting. I know very little about coins, but sure do like liberating them from the ground. The more I find the more I research them. We have purchased some different coins from the Morgan Mint, only because they caught our attention, and we liked them. I have not, as of yet bought any from a collector. But that too may change before too long.

Hi Gregory

I agree completely the coins from the past are the most beautiful !! The WL are among the most beautiful ever produced, even in fine they retain their beauty !!

I have just recently made my first purchase thru TQ auctions,, I was looking for the info on selling ? charges and things like that ,, is there a place there that has that info ?

I came into coin collecting about the same time as metal detecting.
Always had a slight interest but never pursued it until I saw older coins and started buying a few.
Started buying walking liberties and and quarters.

1999 came across ancient coins on the web and was amazed. Been my focus of collecting ever since. Esp. Roman coins of 2nd century AD.
Plus a variety of other types of ancient coins and also picking up artifacts when I can.
The art work involved in these coins are amazing.

Like Greg, I buy bulk as much as possible and then sell the rest. makes the hobby more affordable.

Metal detecing has taught me a lot about history. Always read, butlearned alot by researching and learning about places to dig.
So MD'ing has opened a whole new avenue of collecting and discovery.

Talking I like coins so much I started my own business

figured I might make a little money doing something I love. I buy but rarely sale Indian relics. Just too hard to part with the local history.

Default Yep, collect coins as well!

Hi Folks,

I have had deep love for coins and the history behind them (and for older relics in general) since I was a small child.
American coinage is my prime focus, but older foreign coinage can be a lot of fun, too!
Although I don't have much of anything other than type coins, I enjoy myself.
If I had the money, I'd concentrate on Bust halves: They are big, beautiful, and still quite reasonable considering their age (kind of like my significant other!).
