Since this Eagle actually came with a coil the size of a dinner plate (10 inch)...which looks as though it'd tire you out much more quickly than the 8 inch one....I was wondering?
How many of you guys and gals actually use the 10 inch coils and is the depth gained appreciable? Is it worth the sore arm I'll bet this thing is going to create? Wyatt Fawley |

I'll be posting some progress reports and do intend to try the 10 inch coil in some areas that my 6000 with the 8 inch coil has deemed "clean". Hopefully I will gain a couple inches of depth. I have always figured that the difference in weight was the primary reason for me finding 15 dimes to every quarter. I just think they're down deeper....though I've dug dimes as deep as 8 inches (1872 seated) with the 6000. Maybe there are just that many more dimes lost and I'm way off base.

I have always been a coinshooter but am beginning to develop an interest in looking for Indian massacre sites from the colonial period. There are 2 forts very nearby. I have never heard a single person talk about Statler's Fort which should be about 2 miles from me. That site shouldn't be difficult to locate and there were significant events there. It's always tricky in this area though because so much of it has been mined for coal. It was primarily deep mining, but some strip mining as well.
If I start into relic hunting, the large coil may become even more important to have in my arsenal. I'd be out playing with the new machine if I didn't have an appointment to go see the cardiologist in just a few hours. Wyatt Fawley |

I figured out that my doctor's appt wasn't until 1:00 pm, so I went out in the yard.....and in pretty short order found a 41 wheaty at 4 1/2"...that's the good news. I didn't have a lot of time, so I left the 8 inch coil on it.
The bad news is that I was using the batteries from my 6000, and they were getting weak last time I had that machine out. So.....I figure "no problem" the battery pack for the Eagle has been on charge for 10 hours or better, so I'll install the nicad pack. Turns out they're probably too old....as they only came up to 4.1 volts rather than 4.8. They were stone dead when I got the machine. I'll try discharging and charging a couple times to see if they can be restored, but I need a new nicad pack for my 6000 anyway (It too has died of old age) so I guess I'll order in 2 packs. For now....I'll use another set of alkaline batteries from WalMart. I'll stop and pick those up while on my doctor visit today. I guess the moral of the story is....I was able to locate a 1941 wheatie at 4.5 inches with a machine trying to operate on 3.1 volts....can't wait to get some fresh batteries. Wyatt Fawley |
