Default hurricane Rita

i hope and pray for those in the path of this hurricane. lets just hope she loses some power before she hits the coast! i see on the news that she is predicted to hit Texas or possibly New Orleans again! i do so hope there is not as much devastation as Katrina caused! stay safe out there guys!

I am here in Pasadena, actually on the border of Houston, and it was really far less than expected.
Not alot of rain. mostly high winds.

We were originally, Galveston on through Houston, suppose to be taking the major hit of Rita.
It pulled east and hit Beaumont area. They took the hit and I hope they are going to be okay.
They have alot of damage.

Estimate expected that 1.4 million people would evacuate.
Now an estimated 2.7 million people, maybe more, evacuated.
Absolutely amazing. I do commend our mayors of Houston, Pasadena, and all the cities and for making this happen.
Many poeple avacuated earlier than needed and used the major evacuation routes and that is why you proabaly saw on the news stations about the traffic being so bad.

Also want to mention that people attitudes were reat.
I worked in one of the last grocery stores to remain open in the Houston area. People were considerate, kind and very generous.
And this applies to most people.
Texas people handled this situtaion with grace.

We dodged a bullet. Hate to say we are still over-due for a direct hit.
we were definitely lucky.

Still, bayous are expected to crest Monday and Tuesday as rains continue and Rita heads North. Still depends on where Rita actually heads as it continues its' path.
But the bayous are not expected to flow over. So any flooding from this is doubtful.

Wish the best to everyone along the coast.

Doug

I was going to metal detect and help people find there property once allowed back on the island.
But since Galveston doesn't appear to have recieved alot of damage, it won't be necessay. Of course some damage. But nothing like Alisha in '83.

Right now only people that can prove they live there can enter the island.

But once I can get back over there, I will just detect and see if the ocean will reveal anything good.
even sea shells. Sometimes after a good storm huge shells will wash up.
