I've been thinking about it for a long time.....and I am going to build a lighting unit for my meter on my detector....and get a ballcap with lights on the bill like search and rescue teams use. I've always wanted to hunt at night....and it would seem especially appealing when it's 100 degrees during the day. The only thing stopping anybody from hunting at night is darkness right?.....That shouldn't be a real obstacle. Miner's and Coon hunters got past that decades ago.
Anybody else ever thought of hunting at night? Wyatt Fawley Last edited by Wyatt Earp; 10-03-2005 at 01:15 AM. |

I did few times. But not alone. Fisher's metal detectors used to have a light you used to put in the phone plug and used to lit red we you hit something, good for pinpointed too. It mostly used for the deaf or hearing impared. I got 2 of them cause my wife is deaf. use plently of mosiqito too. For light on head I got from radio shack I used it for deer hunting also.

Hey Pete......You're probably going to lay your finger open eventually..on a nice sharp piece of glass. Hunting without lighting seems to be just too dangerous to me. I want to be able to see if there's anything in that hole that I need to be careful with....or don't want ahold of at all.
The solace is probably uequalled, but if somebody did sneak up on you and make themselves known suddenly...it'd scare the bejeepers out of you. Wyatt |

I'm out in the country, so attracting attention in the middle of the night isn't likely to be a major problem. As always, I'll hunt with permission, and may even alert the state police that I'll be active in a given area in the nighttime hours....so they don't need to bother answering reports if they do get any, and they can tell any callers what I'm doing. We have no local police...and not as many gun totin' folks as you'd need to worry about it.
Nice stuff.....I still prefer the idea of being able to see. Wyatt |

I ve hunted at night several times, and I have a light with me that I only use after Ive located a target I want to dig, my key pad is backlit so I can still see whats in the ground,,
My only problem is I dont use headphones so the sound of the detector seems really loud at night when all else is quiet !! Rick

I just started using headphones this week. They're the ones that came with my whites beachcomber in the 70's.....but they work. They keep the neighborhood dogs from losing their minds too.
I just wish the headphones were wireless so they wouldn't keep changing my tuner settings....especially the "sensitivity" and "disc" settings on my 6000 Wyatt |
