Default Pulltabs,Pulltabs,& more Pulltabs......

I went out to a local beach today(closed for the season) and decided to work the grass as they haven't lowered the lake level yet for me to do the swimming hole. In an hour I managed to dig $2.01 in clad,1 bottle cap,1 silver ring and 60 pulltabs. That is way to many tabs. I was going to stop but every time I hit one I thought "well maybe this is the ONE". I think I'm going to try to keep track of all my pulltabs, and see just how much digging I've gotta do before I hit the elusive GOLD. Anyone else try this? And, if so, what is your average?

Hi dogbit,

I've been full bore detecting for 5 yrs now and have gone through periods of digging only foil, pulltab, and zinc readings and probably could fill a 5 gallon bucket with tabs and only came up with 3 gold rings with little value. But there are many folks who dug that questionable frustrating Id and came up with valuable Gold so i never give up. Default The process of elimination ?

Pull tabs can be a PAIN !! But when I go to a site and dig up 5 to 20 of the ( SAME TYPE ) I use my Disc. Edit on my Spectrum XLT and Eliminate that type . SURE, I might miss that Gold ring that falls in that area as the pull tab that I have eliminated BUT I like playing the odds and ALOT less digging !!! This method works well with me anyway !!! Using this method with GOLD rings, within the last summer I have scored two GOLD rings , one with 6 diamonds ( Which my wife confiscated) !!!
HAPPY HUNTING !!! KENNETH

There is an area up here that is very popular with the summer fly fishing crowd.. Waited till the season was tailing down and couldn't wait to go see. Two hours netted me a pile of pull tabs, rusty bottle caps, and a bunch of fish hooks. Would have been better off leaving the detector at home and taking the fly rod but did manage to clean all those hooks out of an area where barefoot kids play while dad goes fishing.. Bob

Default Dig 'em all!

I think I'm going to try to keep track of all my pulltabs, and see just how much digging I've gotta do before I hit the elusive GOLD.

Hi Dogbit!

I've dug long and hard for two years now... Only found one gold ring, and that actually registered as a zink cent.
I've dug I don't know how many pull tabs, have yet to have one of them actually be a ring.
The plan is to keep on digging those targets... As the saying goes, there's so much crap, that there must be a horse around here somewhere.
It will be the one item I don't dig that turns out to be a ring....

Happy Hunting! -Tom

Default Here's my pulltab story

In 1983.....I had just bought a white's detector....and can't even remember what model...but it had the meter under your hand and puch button in the handle for switching to all metal mode....a series 2 something or other.

Anyway.....I went to Brady's Run Park....and decided to dig everything. I filled a lunch bag with pulltabs in a couple hours.....then this popped out of the ground. It's 10K, 2 diamonds, and red tourmaline.

Hi dogbit! Never really counted all the pull tabs I dug in a day but have dug quiet a few and found nothing or dug just a few and out pops gold! You could try and clean out a certain area and then it would be a little bit easier to hunt each time you come back and if some of that elusive gold gets dropped then maybe it will be easier to find. I have been hunting a park and boy is it loaded with trash and pull tabs. I have an area about the size of 4 to 6 picnic table sections I try and keep cleaned out. Each time I go back I usually find new coins. No gold but if it gets dropped it should be easier to find with less pull tabs to dig. Instead of throwing away all those pull tabs brass aluminum and copper I am thinking of getting some buckets and separating that stuff out and selling it! Making a few cents here and there is better than nothing!

Hope you hit that gold real soon!

HH

Thanks Pat....The coolest part....is that it was my size too! I wore it for about 4 years. It's quite worn and is now "retired". You can see where the mount is wearing through at the corners.

There was a stump about 50 feet from where I found the ring....I got a hit in the weeds around it, and dug the remains of a dowsing rod....the kind with a payload area. What are the odds?
