I'm trying to quit...but
All during the month of October I tried to get one of the local post office employees who also enjoys this hobby, to go on a hunt with me.....well, he decided to hunt for a couple hours yesterday and asked me if I wanted to (dumb question...I always want to)
The 2 hours were spent in a fenced in yard that was directly behind the old theater. Dwayne found some pennies, mostly wheats, and 43 and 44 mercs.
I found an 1899 barber dime, which is only my second ever.....but it's been in the ground, which in this spot contained a lot of ash, and it's terribly damaged by the lye leaching the copper out of the coin for 100 years. Pity too, because even with the heavy corosion and pitting, a full liberty AND the bottom edge of the headband can still be seen. It must have been lost when it was brand spankin' new.
I also found a 1965 1/2 franc coin. I was going to tell Dwayne that I'd found a walking liberty, but I figured he might come running and slip on some dog putty (the reason for the fence) and be mad at me....so I didn't do it. My total finds were about 40 coins.....wheats, the most interesting was a 1932, memorial pennies, a "junior police" badge, 2 clad dimes and a clad quarter.
Gotta run....work beckons. No pics....this one's just too ugly.
