Default Detector dings when coil is bumped???

I am new to MDing and have a barely used Garrett CXIII in perfect condition. I sent the unit off to Garrett to have them go through it and calibrate it just to make sure everything was right. The previous owner said he used it under 5 hours before putting it in a closet for 4 years or so. I noticed that when swinging the coil and it hits a rock or plant stem it will give off a signal. This to me says there is a short but Garrett went through the whole unit and didn't find anything. The detector works great and I am able to find things with it. Just found my first mini ball, and I mean mini, about the size of a green pea at about 5-6" in some very hard dry red clay, so I know it is working good. Since this is my first detector I thought I would ask about this contact signal. By the way, when Garrett went through the unit they noticed a hairline crack on the coil mount where the bolt goes thru so they replaced it with a brand new crossfire coil. I just wondered if this contact signal was normal or what I should do if anything.
Thanks
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
I think that is the norm on many detectors. My whites did the same thing and if I hit something with my Minelab it does it too.

Thanks for the info y'all. I thought I might have a short or something but thought it was strange the Garrett didn't pick up on it. Well now I know. Thanks Again,
Went to what was suppose to be a old homestead tonight up the street. I found the site but they paved over the majority of the area some years ago with asphalt!!! I found 8 45 cal rounds and a plow head. Maybe next time.

Default Bumping & False signals ????

I have a Spectrum XLT and it was doing the same thing when I would bump the coil !!! I think I cured the problem though !!! Cut yourself 4 Velcro stripes about 2 1/2 " long and wrap them around the pole at where the cord meets the shaft and about 6" above that one wrap another one and so on...... . You can purchase a role of Velcro at the sewing and material department at Wal-Mart for a couple of bucks !! Works really well to stop false signals !!!! HAPPY HUNTING !!!! KENNETH
