Default $150.00 to spend..what detector would you buy?

Everyone,

I've been asked by a family friend to find a metal detector for a Christmas gift for his father. He wants to buy his father a metal detector but doesn't want to spend over $150.00.

I own a spectrum XLT and really don't have any experience with lower end detectors.

What detector would be a good one for $150.00? Is it possible to have a good $150.00 detector or would he be wasting his money?

Any feedback would be so appreciated.

Talking $150.00 for a Metal Detector

Hello from Texas! I'd do my shopping on Ebay. Many bargains are available and you can help them choose what type and brand to go with. Some sellers are very knowlegeable about detectors and some are not. You may decide to go with a seller who is alo a metal detector dealer with lots of years of experience. You can also pick up some books which describe and explains the functions of all the various types of detectors available. Of course, if you want NEW then your choices will be very limited maybe a Garrett ACE 150!!! Good Luck

Thanks!

I was looking yesterday and thought possibly I could talk my buddy into spending a little more and getting an Ace 250.

I don't know a thing about them except from what I read on the internet. Sounds like a good detector for the money.

I agree ask him if he can spend 50 more bucks and get the ACE 250. One thing I have learned is the reason why most folks buy metal detectors and don't ever use them, is because they buy a supper low end unit that couldn't find a horseshoe in a bathtub!!!! There are others that think you don't have a good unit unless you spend a grand or more. The ACE 250 is a awesome unit fr the price and his father would be well served by having one. JMHO!!!
