Default Should I or should I not?

I just asked this on another forum a min ago,but will ask here also.I live on 15 acres in the ozarks and have never put a detector to the ground, mainly because it's mainly downhill, tree covered and full of rocks and ticks. It does border the old Butterfield stage road. But my real topic is--down the back road is an old iron bridge over the creek which the county is going to replace because it does still get a lot of traffic. When they ,county, came out to look, they found some 1000 yr old artifacts. They are now waiting to see if the state just wants to note the location or if they need to move the bridge down the creek a ways. They said if anyone wants to dig it is ok,no one has yet.I don't really want to just dig ,so do you think a detector would find anything? It's pretty cold right now,so I don't think anyone will be doing anything for awhile. We have a few creeks around here with several swimming holes that even the old timers use to use which I have never detected.I have plenty of 'want to' but just hate to go alone to do it.Anyway,on a nice day, should I take a detector to that artifact site? Thanks from an ol' 70 yr old 'sit at home'.

Sounds like a great opportunity to get some old stuff Ron. If it is all Indian stone and pottery stuff then, of course, the detector is sorta worthless. I would still take it though! That bridge crossing could yield newer old coins if it has been there awhile. Definitely take it to the ole' swimming holes. Scout the creek/river bank for arrow heads and the like. Maybe you won't have to dig too much just surface searching.! Happy Hunting,
Travis
