Does anyone here believe in "Bigfoot" or as it is known around here "The old Swamp Ape"?? Curious about stories for it.. Thought it may make an interesting topic.. Especially among us woods hunters.

Default I have heard tales of it from family members

I have heard tales from family members of reliable sources and from friends whom just say "Yes. They are out there."

Default Isn't a Momo a type of bigfoot?

If I recall correctly, my grandmother used to tell me about my uncle who lived in Louisianna and was having problems with a hairy ape like thing she called a Momo. From what I could gather from relatives still alive today they claim it is a smaller version of big foot and usually killed dogs and small livestock. It is supposed to be meaner than all get out.

Also, the Matlock Family here in Commerce will not, and I repeat, will not go to the old farming town South Suphurnor the River bottoms to the west of Commerce. They stay on the east side of town and have a spot on the east side of the River right outside of town. They will plumb put up a fight to avoid going over to South Sulphur or the River west of town. I have known these guys for years and they are really religous and hard working folks and a couple of them supposedly had an encounter with a Bigfoot and they moved about 12 miles east to where there were more people.

I had a great Uncle from Bivens TX who was a preacher and he told me about a Bigfoot over near Redhill Texas where he was preaching a revival. Said it was crossing the road and was as big as a Grizzly bear. I asked him was it a Grizzly and he said he knew what a bear looked like and that what he saw was not a bear but an ape looking thing.

Here is a link that has more info.

Swamp Ape, heh. I haven't heard that term in about 15 years. Ive had one experience with the rotten cabbage smell.

Its was up in Tahlequah Oklahoma, where the Ozarks begin. We were up on Sparrow Hawk mountain next to the Illinois river, night time, doing mock prisoner escape recovery for the R.O.T.C.

So we are walking along the ridge which follows the river and we come upon this putrid smell. Now I grew up in those parts and I have never smelled anything like it. We figured we cam upon a dead animal.

Thing is the smell went away. Ok no big deal so we started walking along the ridge again to get to the starting point where we start the search for the escapey.

Again we come upon the smell and again it went away. Now Im with a few experienced military guys and they said that this smell had to be moving.

So thats my own personal experience. A horrible smell I have never smelled before that moved.

Default I am familiar with the area.

I came over the mountains once from Mena Arkansas on the Queen Willamena scenic route and once I got to McAlester OK, I had to change the clutch and brake on my car!! What got me was the people jumping off the side of the road handgliding. I was totally unaware I was that far up.

I've been told the smell is like Kimche but worse. Hey, if we go arrowhead hunting, we will be hunting an area that they have had several sightings at. "Ol' Swamp Ape" was what my grandmother always called them.

Here are some actual Indian quotes referring to them.

"Why do you want to hunt the Wildmen? My children, they are a tribe even as are we. They have families, hunt, fish, and procreate. Leave them alone and they will leave us alone." -Chief Tishuminko (Tishomingo of the Chickasaws)

"The Stick Indians are different in different areas, here we have good ones; where you live, your filth has angered them and they will drive you off." -Ninta Luci (Black Bear, Choctaw Shaman to Arnold Wickhoff at Sandy Creek, Oklahoma, 1877)

"Nothing that is said, or accused towards the hairy brothers of the forests will cause them to leave their homes, they deal with the round eyes the same as we, they will kill the round eyes to protect their home." -WarShield, subchief of the Comanche under Quannah Parker

Ah sasquatch.

That reminds me of that old Six Million Dollar man episode that aired in 1970 something.
