Default Gonna Take It Out Back

Ole' PAPPY was sitting thinking today...and that is dangerous...Some words came to mind from an old song I used to know. The song was called "KEEP THE FRONT YARD LOOKING GOOD". One of the lines in the song was..Gonna take it out the back door and throw it in the River..Gonna take it out the back door and put it in the woods..Gonna take it out the back door and chunk it down the hillside..Gonna keep the front yard looking good.
I know all of us ole' timers can relate to the song but did you ever think about all of the stuff that has been thrown away over the years?
I know when I was a kid we used to load the wagon and get the mule and take all the stuff we couldn't burn down the road and dump it over the hill.
Even today in the remote area that I live in we still burn what we can and throw the rest in the woods. We don't have garbage pick-up where I live and certainly didn't have when I was in my younger days.
There are many many place to look for lost treasures still today. Old homesites have places they used to burn things..many a coin has got in those burn piles by accident. Old toys, pottery, stoneware and Lord knows what else got thrown over the hillside and you can find numerous bottles and stoneware at the river sites still today.
When you are out detecting...Keep this idea in mind...In the OLDEN DAY'S and still some places today people had to dispose of things the best they could..Don't pass up that old burn site, bottle dump, privy, well etc. Take time to investigate the area you are in and you may be pleasantly suprised...PAPPY

Default Heeey Pappyyyy

I looked everywhere I could think for this song. After contacting a good friend of ours whom is in music and radio, he directed me to Chuck Brodsky.

The album this is on is called Last of The Old Time

Ashes from the woodstove filling up the bucket
Spilling out the top, so where am I gonna chuck it?
Take it out the back door to where I never mow
Find a little spot that no one'll ever go to
Take it out back and dump it in the river
Take it out back and throw it in the woods
Take it out back and chuck it down the hillside
Keep the front yard looking good
That old tv - it quit on me brother
Ten years ago - I got me another
First one's sitting out by the porch swing
With the fridge and the stove and a bunch of other things
Take it out back and dump it in the river
Take it out back and throw it in the woods
Take it out back and chuck it down the hillside
Keep the front yard looking good
That rusty old car - it's got no motor
If it had any gas I'd try to explode her
Hubcaps, hoods, and old transmissions
Take 'em to the river - gonna make for good fishing
Take it out back and dump it in the river
Take it out back and throw it in the woods
Take it out back and chuck it down the hillside
Keep the front yard looking good
The food in the fridge - it's all turned green
And the chicken bones that have been picked clean
Some on the counter - some on the floor
Let's take 'em out the back door
Take it out back and dump it in the river
Take it out back and throw it in the woods
Take it out back and chuck it down the hillside
Keep the front yard looking good

Come to think of it, all mine and the kids good finds have been out back!! Crystal always has me taking stuff "out back" but I honestly never thought much about it... Heck, now a days, she even keeps me out back most of the time!! Guess she thinks I'll trash up (or dig up) the front yard!! We done practically excavated the entire back yard.

Default Takin' it away

I remember back in '74 when I was really young and we lived out of town over by Yantis, TX, before they put Lake Fork in. We use to haul our trash to the back of the propery to a ravine that already had a lot of other trash in it. What gets me today is, I remember different colored mason jars down there. The house we lived in was old, built in the early 1900's and I think it was the original dump site from the beginning.

The land belongs to my oldest sister, and I am thinking a bottle scouting trip is in the works. My dad used to tell us kids, "Load up the trailer, we going to the "dump"."

Thought I would post this here...

Here are some of those out back items I found. The bottles are the ones on top of the pile. Not sure the age, probably not very old but I am a pack rat! Had to bring them home! The salt shaker looks like it was hit with a BB gun
No telling what is down under neath all these other bottles! Will have to take someone with me! Hoping Mr. No shoulders is not hiding in all this stuff!

Pappy I am going to post a pic for you in the Ask Pappy section on one of the tokens or coins or maybe it is a medallion not sure will let you look at it there.
