Old systern

I found an old systern or watering well. Bricked round opening, looks to go down about 3 feet then opens up much larger. Still has water in it. Any ideas on what could be in there and how to find out. I don't want to get stuck in a well of course.

And the water thing presents a problem. Would it be worth looking into? Just asking.

NOPE, LEAVE IT ALONE. Might want to detect around it. If it has water in it don't mess with it BECAUSE it is still an active water outlet. Even if you found something interesting in it you are getting into a dangerous situation....PAPPY

Sounds like good advice to me. I felt like it could cave in. Not that it is mushy or weak, but that it gets alot bigger below the mouth.
