Thumbs up Pulled the Trigger (Ace 250)…

Greetings to All!

BRAND new here. I’ve wanted to get into Medal Detecting as a hobby since I was a lad and finally decided to (as Nike says) ‘Just Do It’. I was totally unaware of the abundance of information out there and associated with this hobby, and until I embarked on what would be an extensive research project, thought it was as simple as heading to your local discount store, purchasing a unit, and off you go! Ha – Boy was I mistaken and uninformed!

I really enjoy research (call it another hobby of mine) and jumped right into exploring the many variations of ‘hunting’, impact of soil/conditions, units or machines to consider for each application, etc; etc. I’ve been here for a while observing, reading, and learning (LOTS of good info on this site/forum!), and towards the end I probably spun my wheels a bit; but I finally decided to go with the Garrett Ace 250. (*The wife will probably be a little upset at first, but I’m sure she’ll get over it after the first big find!)

I currently live in the Midwest (Omaha, NE) where I can tell you from experiences with my garden, the soil is a clay-based and heavy on mineral content. (*We might be relocating to the east coast for my job - until then, I'll be hunting and digging in this stuff.)

Starting out, the extent of my Metal Detecting will consist of coin shooting, and jewelry hunting. I might dabble in relic hunting on down the road, but not right away. My machine should be here in a week or so, just in time for the onset of nice weather. I plan to spend a fair amount of time familiarizing with the machine and will keep you all posted on my progress (*I’m sure that I will have plenty of questions .)

Regards,

Josh

Default Congrats on your choice

Congatulations on your choice on detectors. I was just saying how everyone loved the Ace 250. It is indeed a good detector. Can't wait to see what you dig up out there. Keep us posted and til your detector arrives, you can always do research on the area you are in right now and locate you a couple of good hunting spots, gain permission and count the days till it arrives. A word of advice though, if you want to keep the Ace 250, do not and I repeat, do not let the wife use it. That was how I lost mine originally. Then my GTA 350 melted in a fire we had recently. So, the wife feeling sorry for me, let's me use "her" Ace 250 some.

Thanks, Toadie and Pappy – my decision to go with the 250 was in large part due to post and information from you all! Looking forward to embarking on the new hobby. (*And will take heed to Toadie’s advise – I lost my last car [to the wife] that very same way!!! )
