Does anyone out there know if Cape May NJ is MD friendly. We have just booked a house for a week in June and would like to take our toys along. If you have been there, its just common sense that you can't detect in the town. I'm wondering more about the beach tag beaches and the state park beach.
Any experiences?? |

I have hunted there many times and have found that it is a very friendly town for metal detectorists.
You will find the beaches enormous and the sand pleasent to run a scoop through. You must stay Away from the state park and light house. Detecting is not allowed there. There is a beach on both sides of the cape and it seems every town down the shore line permits detecting however you may need to pay a $10.00 a day fee at some of them. Most beaches require a fee between 10:00am and 5:00 pm So go early ans leave at ten, come back at five and get that lost gold. Wildwood and Wildwood Crest are free public beaches just 30 minutes north of the cape. I have never paid a fee in Cape May, but I have not hunted during those peak hours. Yes sir there is plenty of lost treasures there. You should try and learn what the raw Cape May Diamonds look like on the beaches. Lots of people collect them. Up north near the town of Cape May Courthouse there is a very nice zoo you may want to take the family to when you are not hitting the beaches. H.H. Harry |

I have been to Cape May a couple of times in the past, but never before as a MD hobbyist. I've got a house rented for a week in June this time and am looking forward to the beaches. My 17 year old son is interested in the Coast Guard, and has been invited to a Graduation Ceremony at the base, but other than that R&R (detecting and geocaching).
I sent an Email to the NJ park service asking about the State Park, I recieved an answer the next day with the phone # of the Park Superintendent, and mention of the possibility of getting a permit with certain areas of exclusion?? I may follow up on this unlikely possibilty and post the results for all. Thanks for your responses, HJ |
