In my humble opinion a probe is one of the most valuable items you need when detecting.
I use the Whites pinpointer and the Vibra probe. They are both very helpful in finding the targets. I think the Whites Bullseye has a bit more depth penetration, but the vibra probe runs a close second. What I like about the vibra probe is that there are no switches to turn on or off. For a while I used the DX1 which is a 1 inch coil. It works the same as your regular coil on the machine in fact it will display on your detectors machine just like the regular coil does. You have to switch it back and forth from pinpointer to your machine everytime you use it. To me it was not worth the money. I am sure you will get other opinions here also. My suggestion would be to try a couple of them when you are hunting with a buddy that has one of them or another brand to see which one is best for you. |

i agree with boobie! i didnt realize how important a probe was until i began hunting with one. it makes retrieving a coin soooo much faster. it also helps you to prevent damaging your finds too. i have an automax v2 pinpointer and i am about 80% happy with it. it works well and i like how it will detect an object a third of the way up the shaft as opposed to just at the tip. the downside of it is that it is big, it is not as durable as i would like ( i broke mine last week and had to glue it back together) and the sensativity knob is really easy to bump by accident.

I don't use mine on every target but I would say I use it on at least 1/2. It will keep you scratching some of the deeper coins. I also think you will do even less damage to the grass when digging coins. I have been using a Little Wizard II for about 5 weeks and I can tell the on/off switch is starting to wear out.

Go with the Vibraprobe 560. It can be used anywhere and has no controls that have a tendency to break. I sell them at a discount.

I am on my second Automax V2. The first one broke where the shaft joins the electronics. I tried gluing, taping, etc, but it kept coming loose. I was given my second Automax and before I ever used it, I laid a heavy bead of JB weld epoxy where the shaft joins the electronics. My improvement really works and now you can almost pry without it breaking. It is big but if need be you can reach way down into a hole to check things out. I have a GI-1 on my GTI 2500 but still use the Automax a lot. MontyB
