Went to auction

I went to an auction yesterday and bought a si-go gold and silver detector.
has anyone used one before?
i was told that the transmitter sits on the ground and makes a magnetic field and then you walk with the copper rods in each hand until they cross.
i paid $275.00 for it, is that a fair price?
i did not get any info with it, and has come here to seek any help i can find.

i got all my money back but was informed i was making a mistake.lol
anyhow the reason for the purchase is that this site got me started in looking but i found a louvale fan beneth a mountain and found alot of color of gold.
went up last weekend and collected about an ounce of gold in 2 days.
trying to find the source and that was the reason for the detector.
