Hillbilly Bob Brewer
Anyone here read "Shadow of the Sentinel" by Bob Brewer? I saw it on a bargain shelf at a bookshop while on vacation, and I had never thought about mentioning on this forum until that reminded me.
I read the book a couple of years ago while devouring Civil War literature, long before my interest in detecting developed. Bob Brewer is a retired Naval Officer who has spent several years searching for gold caches that he believes the Confederates buried when they felt that the cause was about to be lost. Freemasons, secret codes, Knights Templar, extravagant clues to locations on maps and near the caches, and an order of Confederate descendants sworn to guard it all. It has a little of everything. True? I'm a little more than skeptical, but if you find it on the bargain shelf of your local bookstore (I saw it at 5.00) its definitely worth a read.
