Default buying new detector, cant decide

Ive used my first detector, the garrett gtax400, for a few years now and was happy with it. But its time to upgrade. I had my mind set on the Whites XLT but after alittle research ive found quite a few that i cant decide on. Im willing to spend a bit more this time. Most of my detecting will be in parks, woods, and stuff like that. I will still take it to the beach several times a year though. Which of these detectors do you think would be best for me, Whites XLT (or DFX which seems too be alittle too expensive, but if its that much better i would save up for it), Explorer II or quattro, the sovereign GT or Garrett 2500 Pro.

Thanks for the help, i look forward to buying a new detector. :)
James

James, Some one else can help you with which model, but I think I would go with a minelab, they run circles around my DFX at the beach. I think I am going to get me a minelab.

I found prices for the explorer and DFX. I think i will have to wait because they are more than i can spend right now. This brings it down to the XLT, Quattro, sovereign GT. Which one of these will i get the most depth out of? Are there any others in this price range (about 700$) that would be better?

Hello,
Before I'd buy the Quattro I'd save up for the EX II. In my mind I would think you wouldn't be happy with the Quattro.

A couple of ideas:
1. Don't be in a great screaming hurry. Do your research, talk to folks online and go to a dealer or 3 and check out the different beepers.
2. Check the "For Sale" sections on lots of forums. They have great deals sometimes......again, see #1 above! LOL

Good luck!

HH, ya'll!

The soveriegn GT is a great detector as is the Elite before it. However ; neither have a ID meter on them.If you can go for it I would get a Whites XLT. I can give you a great price on one.

I've been going back and forth between Garrett and Whites but I think I'm going with a Whites MXT.I own a Garrett GTA500 which works like new but I want to upgrade a little and this will do it.

im going to have to get the explorer II. I dont want to buy one now just to replace it with the explorer in a year or so. I was looking at the explorers, some used, and i noticed that on the coil some said FSB 1050 while others just said explorer. Are there 2 different models or coils? Everything else looked the same except this sticker on the coil. Also whats the difference between the explorer II and XS?
Thanks

James
