Default Relocation help

Since this thread says that you can talk about anything I have several questions regarding the NC/SC area. I am looking at places to spend the winter once I retire. I want to go where it is warmer. I have been thinking around the Myrtle Beach SC area. However I am just not sure. I want and need to go somewhere where the winters are not so harsh. I am thinking close to the ocean (within an hour). Anyone suggest some nice safe areas where I might look? I really liked Conway SC. Small town but on the outskirts were all the stores and restaurants a person could want. Any one familiar with this area? JoAnne

Joanne,

Do a search and check out places like New Bern, Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, Oriental, NC and any place here on our outer banks coastal area. Eastern NC is a great place to be.

Like Kelvin said, it's nice down that way. Stay away from Wilmington, to crowded and to much hustle and bustle, and traffic is terrible. Same for Myrtle beach and surrounding beach's South of Wilm. is pretty nice and a lot more laid back, around Holden beach or Boiling springs. I have spent many a weekends in Conway SC, on the Waccammaw river, visiting friends that lived on the river. Realy nice area. But living in SC you will have to put up with more bugs and fire ants, we have them also but not as bad.
Check out this site and enter the county you want to check out

Thanks for the info everyone. I made a trip to Charleston and worked my way up the coast this past July. Way too hot for me in the summer. I saw several places I could call home. The problem is in not knowing the area It is hard to find someplace that is safe. I am planning another trip this winter and will check out more of the places you mentioned. Thanks. JoAnne

bbq - thanks for the link. I will check them out later when I get home from detecting Right now I am thinking of coming down the week between Xmas and New Years since I have it off from work and will not need to take any vacation time. But there is nothing definite yet. This time however I want to rent someplace and branch out from there. The last time I was down I drove up the coast and you really can not get a feel for the area that way. I also wanted to check out Charlotte and Lowes Motor Speedway but time did not permit it. Maybe at Xmas time although there will not be any races going on. Thanks again for all your help. JoAnne

Default Winter Locations

This may be too far for you to come, but we have a lot of Winter Texans that like to come to South Texas especially the Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel-South Padre Island area. This area has very mild winters and one can detect year round!!!! Hope this helps.....
