Default using discrimination on ace 250?

I have not had the Ace 250 very long and have not been out that much as of yet but I am fairly comfortable with everything except the discrimination. Where are other users of the ACE setting theirs to? Is it a 0 to 10 type setting or are you trying to discriminate out certain targets? Or am I totally off base! lol Thanks for any help!!!

the discrim on an ace 250 is notch type discrim. when you pass your coil over an offending target, a cursor will light up on the upper scale under a particular notch.you can choose to turn that notch off, so that any target that is in that conductivity range will not trigger a sound. there are also preset discrim patterns on the 250 such as coins, jewelry, relics, that already have preset notches turned on and off to optimize different types of hunting. if i were you, i would go with one of the presets to start. after you become familiar it will make sense to you. its pretty easy to use. also, read your manual. it explains how all of this works in a much better way than i have done. good luck with it!

Alan- I always detect using the coin mode, that way there are already preset notches. I have hunted in the all metals mode before and I can't stand all the 'chatter' that goes on, and I haven't really missed with discriminating anything out on the all metals mode. I have alot better luck with the coin mode and stick with that, and now I'm really undersatnding all the different tones it sounds.

Thanks all! I went out today and hunted in coin only mode. It was allot easier to pick out the non "can slaw" targets. I read the book a couple times but your explanation made sense and I coulnt make sense of the book explanation for some reason. lol

Thanks again!
