Default Opinions Please

I as thinking of purchasing the ACE 250 as a possible upgrade from my BH Tracker IV. I mostly hunt parks and fresh water beaches and wooded areas. Evenutaly I plan on retiring and then will be hunting salt water beaches. I have no idea which detector I should be purchasing. I did email Tony (TC Metal Detectors) and he says that the ACE may not be my best choice. Sooooooo anyone have any suggestions? I am planning on going to Tony's the end of next month to check out different options. Thanks JoAnne

JoAnne, I think that since you are getting ready to retire and probably don't want to buy another MD after your next purchase, I would [if it was me] get a Minelab, Tony can lead you as to which one. My guess would be the Exployer11 or the Soveriegn GT. The GT can also be hip mounted, for less weight on the arm. A few people would probably about what to get, but you were asking opinions and theres mine. HH

Wow BBQ - I went and looked at what you suggested. They are very nice machines but I am afraid a little steep price wise for me. Wish I could afford to spend that much on a hobby. Thanks for the suggestion anyways.

What the hay, you are going to retire in a couple yrs, go ahead and get yourself something for a retirement gift. and they do great on the beach. Save up for it. You can do it, even look for a used one. Go for it girl, you only go around once in life. Enjoy it

hey joanne i have an ace 250 its light weight and a good machine what i dont like is in wet sand i have to set the sensitivity all the way down because when you hit the ground it will start beeping like there is something there. but for the price all in all it is a good machine, maybe pappy can tell you a little more since he has one also.(i did find a steel wheel possibly from a tractor it was 12 inches across and about 12 inches down and had a real strong reading)

I think that about covers it ! But my choice for a detector would be The fisher cz-20 or a Garrett !

IMO,the #1 to think about is the weight.#2 is if it will handle dry/wet sand.#3 is if you prefer or are more at ease with a target ID display or just tone.Going to Tony's first is best.Personally I believe the weight of all the minelabs will put them out of the running.Being comfortable without a lot of weight, even around your waist or hip is a big concern, especially walking in sand.Tesoro is a good choice with a lifetime warranty. The next best warranty is Garrett with excellent customer service.
