As some of you know I have been unhappy with my BH and have been talking to Tony at TC metal detectors about changing machines. In our discussions Tony has suggested the possibility of 3 machines which should meet my needs and my pocketbook. Here are the 3 - Ace 250, Tesoro Cibola or the Whites Prizm IV. My question to all is can anyone tell me what their choice of these 3 machines would be and why? Any negatives about any of the 3? Right now I am thinking it is between the ace and the prizm - the cibola isn't pretty enough (LOL it is a woman thing) Is the Prizm IV worth the extra money or is the ace the best way to go? I am open to any and all opinions. I want to make sure that my next machine is the one that I will be satisified with. Thanks in advance everyone. JoAnne

Hi JoAnne,
I'm beginning to realize just how good a machine my Ace 250 is. I had my doubts at first, but I found that my frustrating days were not the machine's fault, but my choices of areas to hunt. If I find the right piece of real estate, the Ace finds all I could ask of it and more. You'd be hard pressed to make me switch (especially with the price tags on some machines). Just my 2 cents. Hello JoAnne;
I have a PrizmIII and it works great, and the IV is an upgrade from the III. The smart notch lets you discre. anything you don't want, and the tone I.D. tells you what's in the ground w/out looking at the screen. They are as good as it gets w/out spending a ton of money. Also I have a coupon for $50.00 off any Prizm that you can have it you need it. You can't go wrong with the Prizm. |

I haven't used the Prizm so I can't compare. However my first and only detector is the Ace 250 and I can't say enough about this machine. I would recommend it to anyone. If this becomes your choice I am betting you won't be sorry.

Well.....I've heard of folks having trouble pinpointing with the Ace....all have managed to figure it out, but I've read some reports.
...but I am a 100 percent biased White's owner (since 1978). Sounds to me like "push the pad and pinpoint" (Prizm IV) is very similar to my 6000s trigger which pulls the detector into all metal mode for pinpointing. I don't know how it works on the Garret. Ease of operation counts. Wyatt |

I just purchased the Prizm IV about 3 weeks ago. After learning to 'notch' out things, I am loving it. As someone stated earlier, the hardest thing is finding the right real estate. I have found coins and the only bad thing I've found is that I just need more experience. I think the Prizm IV is light, everything is right in reach of my thumb and for all metal mode, you have the option of just holding it in for a few seconds to use it briefly , or you can tap the button to keep it in all metal mode. The 3 tones makes it easy to tell what is in the ground, without even looking at the read-out.
I'm sure, like most things, it's mainly a matter of what you start with or get used to between Whites and the 250. They're probably just about equal. |
