I still don't know what my friend got as far as the buffalo nickel ordeal goes. I was going to call him this morning....and last night the wife decided that our female cat needed spaying...right away, so I was doing feline ambulatory duty today. I'm going to call him a little later and find out what became of that deal.
While kitty was undergoing surgery...I was perusing the Barber half dollars on eBay.....and I stumbled upon a set of 20th century type coins that looked awesome and the bidding seemed light. I called Greg to see what he thought the set might go for...because I'd decided that if I could swing it....and it didn't go nuts pricewise....I wanted it. I ended up buying the set for less than 275 dollars ppd/insured. I posted some pics of a couple specimens contained in the set in the coins section of the forum....here... Stunning 1917-D type 1 standing liberty quarter This type set, as the story goes...was the private collection of an old coin dealer who's been deceased for 10 years...and was removed right from the safety deposit box to be sold on consignment. I believe the story is valid...as the set does not contain (and has no accomodations for) the Ike dollar, Susan B Agony, or Sacagawea dollars...which were probably not being minted when the set was assembled. The holder containing the coins seems to have been manufactured before 1971. This is as close to "real treasure" finding as I've come in awhile. The set's potentially worth many multiples of the purchase price. It's been a long time since I've made a really shrewd purchase.....and I think this type set will definitely be defined as such. Thanks Joanne.
I called and talked to the seller. I am 100 percent comfortable that the wheels won't fall off of this deal. The lady I talked to told me that the coins were her father's....and they never even knew he had them. Wyatt |

Thanks Boobie......I'm sure they will be great. The 1917 standing liberty....was graded VF-20 in the listing....and the Morgan and Peace dollars...EF-40. If all of the coins they graded at VF-20 are as nice as the SLQ....it'll be a notable haul, as most of them were described as being VF-20.
Her husband is writing the listings....and doing the grading. |
