Default Chicagoland

Anyone from Chicago or it's suburbs let me know. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only mding hobbiest in the state.

Tony, I live about 4 miles from Dekalb.
I hunted quite a bit back in the early eighties.
I just took up the hobby again about 5 months ago.
Good hunting, Merf

Hi Merf
Nice to hear from you. I'm from Tinley Park, originally from Chicago. Like you I metal detected years ago with a Radio Shack analog detector. But not many places to hunt in the middle of a big city, so it end up in the closet. Then I retired and moved out to (the country) This is a detectors heaven, but not many around. Threw away my analog, bought a Whites XLT, and having a ball.

Good hunting

Tony,

I'm up to the north of you. I live in Kenosha, Wisconsin, but I work in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Kinda have wondered the same thing myself where I live. It seems like everyone is down south. I have only seen two other people detecting up where I live. I suppose that means there is more for us, but it would be good to be able to pick up some ideas from others.
As you well know, it is now too dark after work to go MD'ing, and it is getting rather cold. I might try to get out this weekend though.

Eric

Hey Eric
I donot like the cold weather. I've lived in Chicago all my life and the older I get the worse I can tolerate the cold. I would be hanging up my detector if it wasn't for the fact I want to go to Florida after the holidays and I can't wait to do some beach hunting. Maybe I will go out one more time before the frost really hits, but that is streaching it for me.

Oh how well I know how you feel. I keep telling people that every year around now, I like it less and less. I have a few finds I really need to post in the recent finds area, that I keep looking at to keep me from putting it away for the year. I think I will try to brave the cold soon. Then again, I have off two days next week (Thurs + Fri for Thanksgiving), I should really push to get out one of those days. Good luck in Florida.

You guys are Right on about that cold weather. I use a lot of Ibuprorhen in the winter months. Helps the aches and pains. I hope to get out hunting tomorrow with long underwear and a couple of layers of clothes.
Good hunting , Merf

I checked the weather for this weekend. It looks like I might have to get out. Partly cloudy and 45. Not many more of these left I'm sure.
