I pinpoint fairly well but at times I find my pin pointer a must have. I would never hunt without it and enjoy using it.

Some like using a pin pointer & some don't it doesn't make one any more or less of a detectorist by using one. I've detected since the late 1980's and just purchased my pin pointer a few years ago

If I wasn't so frugal...I'd have one already. I'm going to get a vibraprobe for next year's detecting season. They are handy. I've used Greg's a time or 2.

I've just received my Vibra Probe about a week ago and I find it cuts the time of finding a coin drastically. On the Ace 250 I can pinpoint fairly well with the standard coil, however once I am digging the hole I have trouble finding the coin since it is usually blended with the soil caked to it. The vibra probe will tell you exactly where the coin is, whether it is still in the plug, the dirt shoveled out or still in the hole. I've been successful in using the probe on the sides of the hole and have found the coin, if I was a little off pinpointing. Also, I have successfully been able to make a slit in the ground instead of actually digging the ground - putting the probe in the slit and locating my target. If the detector shows target is within two inches down, before doing any digging, I will clear the top of the ground and then probe the surface... there have been many times I detected the target like that... then I can shave the ground instead of digging it... talk about saving lots of time there!!! The one thing I personally would change with the Vibra Probe is allow 1.5" for it to start pulsing when it comes near the metallic object instead of 1". The 1" away when it starts pulsing seems to be just a little too narrow of a margin. However, all in all I do give the Vibra Probe two thumbs up in performance. Especially now since daylight savings time has ended and it gets darker quicker, I personally do not have much time to go MDing before the sun goes down. The Vibra Probe helps me to find my target much faster in order for me to get to my next target. I also like the holster it comes with... this way I am able to keep it there instead of holding too many things since my digging tool is occupying my left hand.
This is just my personal observations of the Vibra Probe.

I love my Vibra-probe.....I wouldn't leave home without it!!! Never used to use one but now it's part of my detecting arsenal....Saves so much time especially small targets that get moved around so easily in the dirt plus they save you from gouging any nice targets!!

Default vibra-probe rules...........

Final, you took the words rite-out-of-my-mouth. I love it. Especially with my bad eyesight.

Default My 2 Cents

I just picked up a new Automax v4 for cheap. I think folks are getting them free with new detectors and selling them off. Its hard to realize just how big these things are until you handle it. They are huge! I have not determined the best way to carry it yet. In my yard I walk with a digging knife and the Automax in one hand and the detector in the other. I may make a sheath out of PVC pipe at some point due to the weak tube boobieinPa spoke of, he is right on about that. As far as functionality, I find it works well, I have even adjusted down the sensitivity since the 2” range was not narrowing down my search area enough. Audio signal is quite loud. The vibrate option is nice, but you need to make sure you have fresh batteries. When I first tried it out the vibe stopped working, turns out what I thought was a fresh loose battery had drained out. New battery, works great.

I see this becoming a backup probe at some point due to the unwieldy size and fragile feel. I will eventually go for the VibraProbe based what I have read. I do like using a pinpointer though, really helps cut down time determining if a target was a false signal or junk or whatever.

Hi Dave...

Well... I have the White's older Bullseye 140mm pinpointer, and use it quite a bit, and so far, knock on wood, its been pretty good to me...Finalastdays reply to your thread pretty much hits the nail right on the head...One other thing, I try to keep mine as clean as possible after each use cuz I do a lot of beach MD'ing...The only thing I noticed is that you practically have to be touching the target before it either buzzes or vibrates...
Boobieinpa, thanks for that site, the comparison between the different pinpointers was very interesting...
