Default Metal Detectors And Airplanes

Is it permittable to bring a metal detector with you in a plane when going to another State or country? I might be going to Peru sometime next year or the following to visit family and was planning to check out metal detecting in Peru. Has anyone taken their metal detector to another country. I know there are probably some pre-requisites and or some forms or something to be done with customs before they will admit a metal detector on a plane OR ARE THEY NOT PERMITTED AT ALL? let me know? I do not want to get in trouble with customs because of a metal detector.

I don't know the answer to your question and perhaps someone else will know but I would call the airlines and ask them. That way you know you will be safe. HH JoAnne

I just brought my detector to London with no issues. I checked it and did not carry it on though. I had it in a hard case, took the detector apart, and wrapped it with clothes. I actually still had not packed my clothes the morning of the trip but I had my detector packed the night before. lol

Default AIRPLANES AND Metal Detectors

I flew with mine in a hard case,
but that was years ago before 9\11. Most of the manufacturers produce hard cases so talk to either a dealer or the Factory and see which one that they use or would recommend. It is better to check it in with your other luggage than not to be able to take it at all. It would be nice to carry it aboard but with all of the 9\11 problems it may not be possible to do so anymore. Good Luck.........

TO SMARTFOX: Also some countries do not allow metal detectors to come into their land. Check with your local embassy for Peru or whatever country that you may want to take it to! GOOD LUCK........

To Smartfox: If you get to take your metal detector to Peru post some of your finds. I had a friend who took his to the Phillipine Islands. He found a lot of coins on the beaches, some were silver. Not a lot of competition in some of these countries. So You will find a lot of coins and jewelry in any of the public areas. Also many of the natives have never seen a metal detector before so you may be asked questions like is that a clam or oil detector! Have fun.....GOOD LUCK........

Default Thanks Joe

That's exactly what I was thinking but I need to get real good at it first and practice here before taking it. I was also thinking of something else though. If I plan on going to peru and they will not let me take the detector I can always ship it to my relatives then when I get there I will have it and CLEAN HOUSE
