Default Some Finds Are Not In The Dirt

I've really enjoyed getting back into this hobby. I guess a little too much. I think my wife and daughter are getting sick of me showing them all the junk I'm digging. We were at my daughter & son-in-laws house the other day. I was telling him about all the coins (nothing outstanding) I was finding and he said he had a box with some old coins around somewhere he wanted to show me. He said when he was younger, his dad owned a couple of coin operated laundries and he let him go through them and pick out any coins he wanted. Well, he brought out a cigar box and I started looking through it. There were several good silver dimes and quarters (some very old) and a few buffalo and one V nichol. I also notice a large copper coin and when I picked it up I could see it was a large cent (1842) in excellent condition. I don't know much about grading coins but it was in extremely good condition. I know this is not the "find of the century" but I have been beating my brains out looking for something like this and he just causally says "Oh I think I have a few old coins". I wanted it bad - but didn't have the nerve to ask him for it.
I guess I will keep looking. At least if ever need reminding what one looks like, I'll know where to go.

Default Some Treasures Are Not In The Dirt............

Also try garage sales and other TH'ers JUNK BOXES. One would be amazed at what some people consider to be junk. These items will either be given to you or bought for very little money. I have found old silverware, tokens, sunglasses, fishing gear, old cast iron objects and costume jewelry just to start. Also broken pieces to antique guns, antique automotive parts plus a lot more. Also if you hunt in a very hunted out area try the bases of all the trees. Th'er have a tendency to throw so called trash objects around these trees. One day while every one else was hunting the wide open spaces I concentrated on all the trees and found a lot of Goodies discarded by previous TH'ers. But I guess that I'm a HISTORIAN at heart and looove all old items even the so-called trash ones...........JOE
