the thing I'm talking about is like a rake thing that you drag around in the beach sand or park to collect stuff. What's that called? I THOUGHT THAT WAS A SIFTER. I'M SO NEW AT ALL THIS THAT I DO NOT KNOW MOST OF THE TERMINOLOGY

See my post in the Thread "raking the detection area" I went into a lot more details on what the Rake looked like. It may have had another name for it back in the 1960's and 1970's. Basicly it was make out of old lawnmower parts. The front of it was a wire mesh box with teeth on its botom section so it could dig or scoop thru the sand. The back section of the wire mesh box had lawnmower wheels attached to it to help one drag it thru the surf! The front of the upper box had a lawnmower handle also to help drag it thru the surf. Some people also atached a harness to the front of this device so the dragging would be a lot easier. SMARTFOX, my email address is tsherrod818@netzero.com send me your address too and I'll draw you a picture of this device and I'll send it to you. This device was in an old book but I do not remember its name. Like I said this is very hard work, I"ve only seen maybe 2 example of this device built since I started TH'ing in 1970. And most gave up after only a few tries. It may be easier to use a small dredge in the water, which is basicly doing the same thing. All the sucked up sand is passed thru a wire screen catcher in the back of the dredges riffle box. The dredge would not work good in the surf......... on a calm lake or river would be its best locations.......JOE
