Hello,

If anyone could give me advice I would appreciate it. I've never tried metal detecting and don't know where to start. I've been looking at detectors and would like to know what would be a good one to start with.

Thank you

CJ

I agree fre2detect with letting the dealers recomend the machine and then when you get your detector dig everything and it will eventually be something good. just don't get frustrated if you dig a hundred pulltabs or nails because your first silver coin will make you forget every piece of junk you dig. and just remember to practice good detecting methods such as filling your holes and taking your garbage with you. and most of all GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN.

Hello and welcome to TQ. I have just started MDing this summer and bought a Garret ACE 250. It is easy to use and lightweight. The price range is around $200.00. I have found some relics and some silver coins with it, plus countless pulltabs, foil, and just plan old junk. But I do dig everything still. Ask lots of questions on here, everyone is very helpful.

Default Hi cgirl

Welcome cgirl to a wonderful site and a great hobby.
I started detecting about a year ago and bought the Ace 250. I love the machine and have found enough clad coins to pay for the detector. The dealers and sponsers of this site can give you more advice. Good luck and we will be waiting to hear about some of your great finds.

Welcome to the forums. The Ace250 is a great starter detector but may be less than you need. First determine wht you want to spend , where you want to hunt and what you want to look for mostly and this will better help in determining what you need. If you have any more questions I'll be glad to help you out.

Welcome to TQ!

I recommend the Ace 250 also. I asked that very same question and 98% of the responces were for the Ace 250, so I bought one for myself!

Welcome to the group CJ. As already said, the ACE 250 is a good starter and at a great price. Let us know what you decide on and when you first go out, let us see what you find. This is a great group for a great hobby.
