Talking Well, I Finally Did It!!!!!

Well, after lots of questions and research, I finally did it, I bought my first MD yesterday!!! I purchased a Garrett Ace 250.

Thanks to all of you and your responses to my post, I was able to make the decision. Now all I have to do is wait for some warm weather to get here. I guess now that it is cold, I'll just have to do a lot of reading.

Congradulations on your purchase. Now go find something so you are permanently hooked! Once you start finding some good things, you will even strongly consider this weather as viable for detecting. I'm in Wisconsin and went this past weekend for an hour. Cold, but I had to do it. One thing you may also want to pick up if you havn't yet is a good pair of headphones. It can really make a difference. Best of luck.

Eric, thanks for the info regarding the headphones. I have been looking into that and I am still not sure which ones to get (at a resonable price). I know I will need a pair with individual volume control, one for each ear. Any suggestions?

Congratulations, you won't be sorry about the ACE, it is a great machine. While you are waiting for the weather to change get a big piece of cardboard or a large rug and have someone hide coins, pull tabs etc. under it and get good at identifing what is hidden and pinpoint by sticking a stick pin thru the cardboard where you thing the item is located. See how close you come. When you are good at figuring out what is hidden and where you will have better luck when you start digging.
We will be waiting to hear about your great finds.

Congrats Tom! I, too, have an Ace 250 and enjoy it very much. I do agree with Eric concerning headphones. I do not know much concerning the quality of headphones, I am sure one of Treasure Quests sponsors can better tell you more concerning them. I do know however that individual volume controls on the headphones are a plus, mine has the volume controls and the headphones do help out a lot. The Ace is a terrific machine and is very easy to learn and operate, as well as being very lightweight. Enjoy you metal detector and please keep us updated with all your finds!

Tom,

Regarding earphones, as you may have already seen, the prices can go from $35 - $150. These are the earmuff type that cover the whole ear. After seeing the prices of them, I guess mine are closer to the lower end, but work fine for me. Dual volume control is a must. I have some hearing loss in one ear, so if I don't sent the volumes correct, everything sounds like it is one one side.

The earmuff kind are deffinately hotter in the summer, but for me, I MUCH prefer having the isolation they provide. Also, if you have spectators that keep asking questions, it is easier to 'play deaf' with this type on. Also, this fall I was detecting a couple times where there was high wind. They were perfect for hearing and keeping my ears warm.

Good luck on your new adventure. Now lets see some finds!

Eric

Thanks Eric,

I will most certainly get headphones that are like "earmuffs" to cover the entire ear with dual volume control. I too am leaning towards the lower end of the cost scale. Not sure which ones just yet, but Santa is coming real soon!

Thanks for the info

Someone may have already mentioned it, but take a look at the TQ sponsors sites. One I looked at had a large selection of them. Good luck.
