Default Trying Out A Big Park

TOMORROW. WAS SUPPOSED TO WORK ALL DAY BEFORE MY 2 WEEK PAID VACATION GOOD PART OF BEING A TEACHER BUT MY SON'S DAYCARE IS CLOSING EARLY SO HAVE TO PICK HIM UP BY 12:30 P.M. GOING TO TAKE HIM TO A BIG PARK. I'M NOT SURE BUT IT MIGHT BE A STATE PARK. THEY HAVE PONY RIDES AND TRAIN RIDES AND ALSO A NICE PARK FOR KIDS TO PLAY. I DO NOT THINK IT SHOULD BE TOO CROWDED. WILL TAKE SON ON PONY RIDE AND POSSIBLY TRAIN TOO THEN WILL DO SOME DETECTING WHILE HE PLAYS. SHOULD I JUST GO IN WITH MY DETECTOR AND DETECT OR SHOULD I ASK FIRST? I DO NOT THINK I HAVE SEEN ANY SIGNS ABOUT NOT DETECTING. I THINK THE PLAY AREA IS SAND BUT AM NOT REAL SURE. Also what other areas at the park should I check? I'm still new at this. Thanks in advance.

if you can find somebody to ask, i would if not just tell them you didn't know, and put it up...its not like we are there to rob somebody, just the ground for its riches...but always ask then you will know the next time.

I would go ahead and do it until someone tells me otherwise. It is easier to ask for forgiveness (maybe after you have found that keeper coin) then to ask and be told no right from the start. If they come around then stop. But until then go for it.

All National Parks are off limits to metal detecting... I believe every state's State Park is off limit to metal detecting also, I know my state of Louisiana is off limits. If you do find a keeper coin, keep it hidden - just in case someone shows up to stop any metal detecting... show them just a few clad coins if they ask.

Yulp Stephan - sometimes you even have to carry a little trash in with you to make it look good. Put some foil and a few pop tabs in your treasure apron/pouch and leave them there. That way you are always prepared and they do not weigh much to carry around. It is not sneaky it is called being creative.

Default good idea guys

do the park rules actually say no metal detecting? because if it does not say it then they can't really penalize me for it. maybe give me a warning but that's it. i do not even think this is a state park but not too sure. wish me luck today

As far as places to look..given my very limited experience, here's where I look when I go to a park.

Under old play equipment like monkey bars
By picnic tables
Along the sides of sidewalks or trails
Benches by ball fields
