Christmas Story 2006 "MOO"
MOO
Santa walked down to the barn to feed the reindeer. The day was crisp,
causing his breath to puff out in little clouds that hung in his beard. It
was that busy time of the season for the North Pole. Everyone was at the
work shops building things, wrapping things, and packing things. All the
elves were working overtime.
Entering the barn he saw right away that something was wrong. The
reindeer always were waiting for him and crowded around him to get a
friendly pat, a scratch back of the ear, or a kind word. Today they all
were at the back of the barn looking at a stranger. Santa had to push his
way between the reindeer to see what was going on. And was he ever
surprised. Standing there was a silver cow. A big silver cow. She looked
like a Christmas ornament with horns.
"What on earth are you," Santa asked? "How did you get here?"
"Oh, Santa. It's really you! I have been looking for you for a long
time."
"Yes, yes. It's me, but how did you get here?"
"I flew, Santa. Been flying for years. Can't do anything right they say."
"You flew," Santa asked? "Cows can't fly!"
" Well, neither can reindeer." she said.
"Humph, I get your point. What else can you do, beside looking shiny as a
tinseled tree?"
"Well, I can give milk."
"That's not so unusual," Santa said.
"Only, it's chocolate and comes in green and red colors," said the cow
with a smile. "Also, I can say "Mooory Christmas."
"Wow! I have never heard of such a thing,"Santa exclaimed. So why are you
here?"
"Came looking for a job. I'm not exactly in demand down where I come
from. Thought I could become a substitute reindeer if one of them got sick,
or something."
"Well, I don't know. I got Rudolf for replacement, now. And how would
that look to folks to see a short-horned reindeer pulling my sled?"
"Please, Santa. You got to help me. I can't go back. Folks just don't
want me, except to put me in a circus. And they all laugh at me, and call
me a freak. None of the other cows want me around, and all the bulls chase
me off. I got nowhere else to go!"
After a long silence, Rudolf turned to Santa. "I know how she feels,
Santa. Remember how I was rejected for my bright nose? Can't we find
something for her to do?"
"Well," Santa muttered. "Let's see. We know the elves would enjoy the
chocolate milk...."
He started walking around the barn, thinking real hard. All the reindeer
watched him as he paced to and fro. Stopping by his huge sled he looked up
at it for a long time, and then broke into a big grin. "I got it! Every
year we fill the sled to overflowing, and every year we drop packages off,
and lose them because we are in a hurry to get all around the world to all
the children's homes. Now we can have someone flying behind us to catch
these packages so they won't get lost."
So, this year, if you catch sight of Santa and his reindeer, look real
hard. Not to far behind will be a flying silver cow, with a large basket
between her horns, catching all those loose packages
flying off the sled. And shouting for all to hear, "Mooory Christmas, all!"
